I had a lot of severe nausea at the beginning of this pregnancy, and also some mega strong cravings and found if I ate whatI was craving I could normally just about keep it down. Now the nausea has thankfully almost totally gone, but I have lots of days where I feel almost like I need to force myself to eat,I have all the signs of being really hungry, stomach growling, starting to feel shaky if I haven't eaten in a few hours, but I have no 'appetite' when I try to think about what I'd like to eat I can rarely summon up any real interest in eating.I eat because my body is obviously hungry but it's like my brain hasn't got the message! I'm normally quite.a foodie person, enjoy cooking and eating even more but lately I am struggling to muster interest in anything, and everything just tastes a bit bland when I eat it. Never had this in previous pregnancies, any thoughts/experience?Does it pass?I miss liking my food!!
Confused

I've always gone off food when pg. I get my appetite back around week 15-18. In the meantime think "little and often" eating a small amount 5/6 times a day rather than 3 full meals, and make each mouthful you can manage really count nutritionally.

ApocalypseThen · 16/10/2014 19:20

Nope. Just off good food. I only want toast and butter. Anything else makes my stomach churn.

dragonflyinthelillies · 16/10/2014 19:21

I was exactly the same till about 3 weeks ago. I'm now 24 weeks and have an almost unsaitable appetite! I literally cannot stop and am definately making up for the first half of pregnancy :)

Hopefully it passes for you as well, I'm very much enjoying my pregnancy indulgences now, and they are even better as I was off food for such a long time

Scattaboy · 16/10/2014 19:22

That is reassuring and I'm trying the little and often thing too.I'm 14 weeks so hopefully not too much longer of this phase to go!

I've just ordered a lovely Indian takeaway, was really hungry and had such a strong craving.

One mouthful, cue nausea and heartburn. [grumpy]

Can totally sympathise with this post. I'm 12 weeks and usually I'm a foodie person. But up to now, even the thought of eating is a chore nevermind eating. The only things I manage, cereal, boiled sweets and bland things like bread, chips etc. it's awful. Nothing interests me food wise and it's very frustrating. Nausea and tiredness I'm just about managing but the food thing really upsets me Hmm

My partner made a beautiful chicken stir fry the other day for us both. I had one mouthful and then gave up Hmm

My hubby is getting fed up with me not eating anything. Im 12 weeks now i hope i get back to normal soon Blush

bellaboo88 · 17/10/2014 10:35

I'm the same, now 22w & even told my partner the other week its like an eating disorder.

When I had MS, eating was my cure but very little & often. I still don't get excited about a nice meal & eat kiddy portions 'because I need to'.

Needless to say ive not put on much weight but after seeing my mums maternity file, she was the same.

One thing I could smash in tho is a happy meal with salty chips mmm! X

dietcokeisgreat · 17/10/2014 13:35

I wish i was ... Only v early on and eating like a greedy blob ??. My mum keeps telling me to stop eating or i will get fat. Last time i had bad morning sickness weeks 5-10ish so have sympathies. May yet appear this time.

juneavrile · 17/10/2014 14:55

I had this for a few weeks. DH did the cooking because I just couldn't summon up the interest. Just said I'd eat whatever he ate. I didn't find it hard to eat a meal when it was in front of me, but didn't particularly enjoy it either - just ate it for its nutritive value! Weird.

ToniWol · 17/10/2014 19:55

I had this early on. Lost about 10lbs. It did get better in the second trimester though. I was still eating but not much of anything at all really.

blankfornames · 18/10/2014 06:47

Yep, I'm 22 wks& I've lost my appetite. I can eat but eating for the sake of the baby as opposed to the enjoyment of it, though I had a steak last night & devoured it!

CherryLips1980 · 18/10/2014 07:22

I did/have.

Started about 8 weeks, would eat about half a meal and then couldn't possibly eat a single extra thing. It's worse if I cook it myself for some reason.

Didn't happen with DD although I was very sick with her (every day, right up to the day she arrived :( ).
