Antibody Vaccination for Chickenpox - Cuddles Please

cry ... I don't believe it.

I have never had chickenpox, so last year I was very careful to get myself the vaccination for it to protect me and any baby. Ds has just gone down with it and I've had my antibodies checked (the doctor nearly didn't bother because I'd had the vaccine - I had to insist for my own peace of mind).

I'm not immune.

What are the odds of that?! There was a 97% chance of me being immune anyway even though I hadn't had chickenpox. I wasn't. There was then a 90% chance the vaccine would take. It didn't. Never ever EVER let me gamble, I would lose too much money...

I have to go to the hospital in an hour to get an antibody injection, but I know that's not guaranteed to stop me getting chickenpox. I'm not feeling too hopeful on my odds... It's a human blood product which I wanted to avoid. I'm not even thinking of all the complications that can happen with getting chickenpox for and asthmatic mother at 34 weeks of pregnancy...

Feeling very vunerable and upset.

oh dear! The only stuff that doesn't mix with homeopathy is caffeine and some essential oils like eucalyptus. I think your midwife may be mixing herbal and homeopathy (although unless someone knows what they're doing it can be very didgy using herbal medicines during pregnancy).

I tell my 2 that the homeopathy pillules are sweeties- the only problem I get then is that they both want one!

Eeek! You telling me I have to give up my cuppa now when I take these?

(Actually, I've been very good ... I only get about 2 cups of either tea or coca cola a day now - all I can fit in between the 8 glasses of water! But I'm not sure I could give that up... an hour away from the last homeopathy pill should be okay, shouldn't it?!)

Well I've just taken my first dose of the varicella. I'm all nervous now... how pathetic is that?!

Just wanted to give an update. Today is three weeks since ds came out in spots and LOOK NO CHICKENPOX!

Hospital midwife is erring on side of caution and saying I'm not all clear until three weeks since he crusted over (which would be Monday) but I hope I'm not tempting fate by feeling fairly confident I've escaped the dreaded pox.

Thank you all for your support on this thread - it was very much appreciated at a time I was feeling very scared and emotional. hugs to you all.

Especially to jimjams, you're a star. Not sure if it was the varicella that did it or whether it was the VZIG or just generally keeping my immune system strong - frankly I don't really care!

Actually quite keen to know what you think about the childbirth homeopathy kits and whether they're worth the money (I notice Ainsworths sell one for £30) - whether the midwives at the hospital will allow me to use them in conjunction with the induction. Better start a new thread for that though

Well I will be asking my homeopath what to take during my probable section (probably a homeopath's appointment is a better way to spend £30 and they'll give you the rmemedies you need).

And I won't be telling the m/w's or drs I'll just be taking the stuff.....

Glad you're well- I was wondering about you earlier this week.
