Mamas & Papas....A word of warning.

Grrrr to Mamas & Papas.

(Not a stealth boast, just so my anger/disappointment is proportionate) I ordered £3k worth of products from you & you have the cheek to....

  1. Send a postcard to my address about the order - addressed to someone who hasn't lived here for a decade. Look on your system to see who has actually placed the order! Out of politeness, if nothing else.

  2. Your postcard said you had left messages & tried calling. Utter rubbish - No voicemail on either of the mobile phones NOR the landline. Outright lie.

  3. You then contradict this when I call you (Your lines seemed to have been down all of Saturday & you kept me on hold for 42 mins on Sunday) by saying you hadn't left any messages at all because I had given you incorrect phone numbers. What - all 3??

  4. You ask me if I can delay the arranged delivery date (Having already waited 16 weeks for the furniture which had yet to arrive) so that all items can come on the one day. Yep, that's ok, I am happy to do that as you suggested it

  5. Except it didn't all arrive so now I have to wait in for a second delivery because....

  6. A human has told your system that I had previously been made aware that one item would be delayed even further and would have to wait in again just to sign for it. Outright lie Why would I have agreed to THAT when you suggested I delay to have just one day allocated for delivery??

Customer service....non existent.
Warning to others thinking of using M&P- Proceed with caution.

They have notoriously poor customer service! I hope you get what you've ordered.

rootypig · 07/10/2014 04:13

Jaysus. Cancel the order. Place it with John Lewis instead. Job's a good un.

munchkinmaster · 07/10/2014 04:27

I picked my nursery, paid deposit, waited as said would be 12 weeks lead time.

Called 12 weeks later: where is the furniture?
Lead time doesn't start till you pay final installment.
Me: aaarggh! I've never been asked for it. I didn't even need to pay in 4 installments!

Few days later revealed as bollocks

Few weeks later arrives. Chipped to bits.

Also stinking of chemicals. It was awful. It's a small room but after spent 30 mins puting baby's clothes in I felt I'll and clothes stinking.

Mamas and papas no remorse, no help. Had to air room for over a month.

SavoyCabbage · 07/10/2014 05:20

I actually did cancel my M&P order as they were so rubbish and get my stuff from JL.

My dd is nearly 11 and is still using her wardrobe and we have moved five times, once to Australia. It's still going strong.

moominlike · 07/10/2014 08:08

I've also had no end of problems with Mamas & Papas because of the delivery company they use - shockingly bad. We were given compensation but I wouldn't order anything for delivery from them again. We finally got our nursery furniture a week ago but still got a call yesterday to say sorry for the delay and they can deliver it tomorrow if that's convenient!? Handy if we were having twins I suppose...

wigfieldrocks · 07/10/2014 15:35

Yes I have heard lots of people saying very similar things about mamas and papas and not getting very far when they complained. Seems they are notorious for it, I personally wouldn't use them because of all the bad reviews I've heard.

SmileAndNod · 07/10/2014 15:42

We had a VERY similar experience when spending £££ on the ocean range of furniture. That was just over 7 years ago. We had to bring pfb home to an unfinished nursery not that it mattered thinking about it now as he left our room at 9 months. Sad to see that nothing has improved in all that time...

Katiebeau · 07/10/2014 15:45

Oh they are dreadful!!! Cancel OP.

babykonitsway · 07/10/2014 16:51

Very interesting. 20 weeks with first baby so starting to look at furniture, m&p were on the list, now maybe not so much....

I cannot stand poor customer service. Been recommended John Lewis by a few people, a bit dearer but the customer service and returns services are brilliant.

babykonitsway · 07/10/2014 16:52

can you do a bit of shaming via their facebook or twitter?

LBNM19 · 07/10/2014 17:16

A friend had a similar experience in dec 2011 thought they would of improved by now!! I've got my buggaboo bee coming tomorrow from them had a dispatched email so hopefully all goes well.

Eminybob · 07/10/2014 17:22

Their customer service is shocking. When I spoke to someone about my issue she just didn't care at all or try to resolve anything.
I then emailed their customer services team to make a complaint and didn't hear anything back. I gave up in the end.

AnythingNotEverything · 07/10/2014 17:26

Go to twitter and complain there. And cancel your order if they don't fix it immediately.

They're under a CVA apparently. Struggling financially and closing stores.

BikeRunSki · 07/10/2014 18:22

As a parent of six years standing, let me tell you now not to waste any more time or money on M&P.

They are very expensive. Customer service is awful. Quality is not great.

You can always get something better elsewhere.

woodwaj · 07/10/2014 18:32

They told me they left me a voicemail on my work number when it doesnt have a voicemail. Id arrived to pick up my order that they emailed me to say was there and it wasnt.

ilovehotsauce · 07/10/2014 18:35

There customer service is terrible.

Just wait until something breaks!

ilovehotsauce · 07/10/2014 18:37

Like others have said cancel and go to John Lewis.

ChippingInLatteLover · 08/10/2014 02:13

What on earth have you ordered?

18yearsoftrying · 10/10/2014 17:35

OP here

We ordered absolutely everything in the one hit on the basis we had undergone 18 years of IVF, this was the first successful attempt & we wanted to embrace the pregnancy. The only "over the top" item was the all-terrain travel system because we intend to use it in snow & sand as well as woodland. Other than that, it was the usual furniture set, muslins, basic clothing, steriliser...the usual gubbins. It was the pram that pushed the cost up.

I couldn't cancel as some posters suggested as it arrived last week on a date they gave me to ensure (ha ha) that everything came in the one delivery - which it then didn't!

On a brighter note, following my feedback from an emailed survey this week, I have received a call from management who are extremely disappointed & let down by their colleagues & lack of personalisation/admin skills/initiative. T'was a very long chat I had with her, she didn't fob me off, she took my complaint very seriously & I am impressed with her attitude & how she intends to speak to members of staff. She questioned me intensely on every issue & didn't once disrespect me.

She was mortified that the couriers didn't offer to take the furniture to the "room of choice" as they are paid by M&P to do this. I wasn't even aware that I should have been offered the choice hence not even mentioning this in my o/p.

Management have sent me a giftcard worth a substantial value. I cannot moan about how seriously she took my complaint.

I thought mamas and papas were fine when we used them a couple of years ago. We had more of a problem with a john lewis delivery recently.

One good thing that mamas and papas do is sell spare parts if you need them. Husband broke cot bed and they sold the bit we needed and a pram rain-cover when ours was worn out.

I am glad customer services were responsive.

wtffgs · 10/10/2014 18:56

Dreadful overpriced crud!

I flogged their shite high chair which could not be cleaned properly and got an Ikea Antilop for £15. I also had an M&P pram/car seat - heavy, overly complex to assemble and shit to steer ??

ChippingInLatteLover · 10/10/2014 19:22

I am still amazed at how much you spent, but there you go :)

I'm glad they've sent you a decent gift card. How long before you have a bundle to put in it??

Keenoonvino · 10/10/2014 22:01

I have to say I've found their customer service pretty good. We moved house and left the part we needed to turn our ocean cot bed from a cot to a bed in our old attic and they sent it to me no problem and free of charge. I did have to pay for all the screws though! And I got
Given a second hand flex wrap/ sling but had no idea how to use it and rung up and they posted me instructions within 2 days.

I just thought it was fair to show the other side! We did order our
Nursery furniture from the baby show 3 years ago though, it was mamas and papas range but through an on seller. They dumped in on the road outside the house and left! I was 7 months pregnant! Luckily my parents were there to lug
It inside!
