Terrified of scan!

Hi all

I have my dating scan tomorrow at 10:15 and I am beyond anxious and scared. I'm not a first timer but my daughter was almost 10 years ago when I was much more blasé and less inclined to use Dr Google!

My pregnancy symptoms weren't too extreme to start with and gradually tapered off around 10-11 weeks which has already made me paranoid!

I know I'm just ranting really, nothing I can do to change the outcome. I'm just beyond scared!!!

Congratulations on your pregnancy Gemzybelle!

Try to focus on how lovely it will be to see your baby at the scan. Do you have a nice day/evening planned today to distract you?

smogsville · 06/10/2014 10:36

Hi Gemzy

I could have written your post. Am around 10-11 weeks too. Still got achey massive boobs and quite tired from time to time but other than that am symptom-free. Only very mildly queasy at the very start too. Pimples seem to have died down.

I was intensely relaxed when preg with DD 3-4 yrs ago because I didn't bother reading anything - ignorance really is bliss. That pregnancy was totally symptom-free, even more so than this one, she is a happy and healthy 3yo.

Scan is next Thursday. I wish I'd thought to organise an early one privately but just didn't get around to it and doesn't seem worth it now with ten days or so to go.

Like you no reason to suspect anything amiss other than paranoia. Wish you all the best for tomorrow, take comfort from the fact that lots of other people on here seem to share your concerns even though statistically the likelihood of everything being hunky-dory is very high xx

pippinleaf · 06/10/2014 10:45

I took comfort from knowing that maths was very much on my side. It IS a daunting experience, particularly when you've heard all the scare stories from other people / google. There is an extremely high chance you'll be sobbing with joy and proudly showing off your pics. Fingers crossed for you Smile

Thanks ladies Thanks

With my first pregnancy I didn't even know things like missed miscarriages existed - oh to be so carefree now!

I'm hoping I can have a nude relaxing night rather than googling horror stories! Need to put the laptop down!!!

A NICE relaxing night not a NUDE one haha no chance of that unfortunately for DH Grin

I came on to reassure you Gemzy, but got distracted by your post Grin . Particularly as the advertisement being shown at the side of the screen was for the 50 Shades Collection at F&F... Hmm

Just wanted to say that the odds are definitely in your favour - you've had symptoms, and they've died off at the right time. It's always going to be an anxious time, but tell the sonographer you are nervous, and I've always found them to be really reassuring.

Have fun tonight with DH tomorrow Flowers

Hi.
Im the same but this is my first, sometimes i think the amount of info we can read just scares me about mc's.
How did it go? X

DinoSnores · 06/10/2014 17:37

Something I would say to myself is: Worrying about it is not going to make a miscarriage any more or less likely. Today you are pregnant. Enjoy it!

plinkyplonks · 06/10/2014 21:58

First thing to remember is being nervous about your scan is perfectly normal. I've been absolutely petrified at every scan I've had - worrying if somethings gone wrong, worrying if somethings changed, worrying about symptoms I've had etc.

If you had lots of pregnancy symptoms - you may worry that some of them were signs that things were going wrong
If you had no pregnancy symptoms you'd worry
If you had no pregnancy symptoms but then started to get them you'd worry
If you had pregnancy symptoms but they tapered off - you'd worry.

There is unlikely to be any combination of scenarios and circumstances that where you will not worry! It's natural to worry - you care, your baby matters!

You cannot predict or control any of it. All you can try and do is enjoy it! As the poster said above - today you are pregnant.

If you get bad news tomorrow, you are a strong woman and you will deal with it. That beanie was not meant to be and there is nothing in the world you could have done to stop it.

If your scan goes well tomorrow, you will be happy. Then onwards and upwards to the next stage!

You cannot control any of this - so please try and enjoy it. The majority of pregnancies lead to happy, healthy babies. You're going to the scan prepared and informed - that's all you can do :)
