Fetal fibronectin test came back positive

I posted earlier in the week about my plug going, and after spending all day today with period like cramps and a very hard bump, I went to get checked out at the Day Unit. Tightenings were irregular but the Fetal fibronectin test (which checks if you've released a protein which is found when your body is getting ready to deliver the baby) came back positive which means there's an increased chance I will deliver in the next few weeks.

I've had a steroid shot to mature baby's lungs, and will be going back tomorrow for a second. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Hi, I've had the test although mine came back negative. They told me if positive it was likely I'd go in the next week. As I said mine but negative but I did give birth 2wks later so a positive test must mean sooner than that. (Although I'm not an expert)
How far along are you? I was tested at 36wks and gave birth at 38wks.

Sorry that probably wasn't much help. Good that you know though and can have the steroid jabs for baby's lungs.

Ive had it twice and both times it was positive, both babies were born within a week but my waters had broken. They were born at 35 and 32 weeks

I'm 33 +1, and have been told to keep an eye on Tightenings becoming more regular/bright red blood loss/water/ lack of movement etc..I was only allowed home because I live across the road.

Ds3 was my 32 weeker, tested positive at 31 + 2 and he was born the day I turned 32 weeks. I had injections for his lungs and he did really well. He was 4lb 4, spent 4 days in nicu then came up to me on the ward for 6 days before going home. Hes now a healthy 3.4 year old on the 98th centile for height!

Off to have my second lot of steroids now, still experiencing constant cramping and Tightenings but it doesn't feel like much of a pattern. Good to hear so many positive experiences x
