Excuses for not drinking - when you work in and know everyone at the pub......

Hi chaps. I'm around 4-5 weeks, only found out a couple of days ago. Trouble is, I work in the pub and it's the only one. We normally have drinks when we finish so how do I get away with it? When I go there socially it'll be my friends behind the bar so I can't get away with a pretend G and T. Can't imagine DP being happy to stay in for the next two months. Suggestions?

Could you sign up for the sober October thing? Or would your boss be unimpressed?

Could you say you in a diet and there are a lot of calories in alcohol so you aren't drinking for the month. You can embellish the story with things like there being as many cals in a bottle wine as in a king size Mars bar etc. Obviously won't work if you are thin!

Could you be driving?

Could you tell just one trusted person at work and they could help you cover? Maybe pretend you're taking up a new exercise class so you're not in the pub so much when not working? DP can surely still go there solo? Good luck.

antibiotics.....works every time :-)
To be more specific it's metronidazole that causes projectile vomitting when you drink and dentists tend to give you this Grin

BoldFossil · 22/09/2014 16:42

that you over did it the night before.

FTRsGotAShinyNewNN · 22/09/2014 16:44

Agree about the metronidazole and an abscess can take ages to clear up, sometimes 2 or 3 rounds of antibiotics Wink

Cystitis/kidney infection?

amicablemoomin · 22/09/2014 16:52

I said I was doing a couple of months sober before Xmas, trying to get in shape etc, worked fine!

1lov3comp5 · 22/09/2014 16:52

I used to carry an old jar/tub of a prescription in my bag and claim I was on antibiotics, showed the jar to anyone who seemed suspicious! My 5-10 weeks were over Christmas so would have been impossible to come up with that many different and believable excuses!!

hillyhilly · 22/09/2014 16:54

I said antibiotics or got bought a drink and hugged it all night or syphoned it off to Dh so it looked like I was drinking, admittedly this as at a party where no one could tell what was in your glass or how long you'd had it.

The diet thing tends to work. Taking a drink and not really drinking it is surprisingly effective - most people simply do not notice, especially after a few rounds.

Lally112 · 22/09/2014 18:06

I always pretended I was rough as, worked in with the morning sickness thing too "jeezus she hit it heavy lastnight" etc. if you stay behind after work - pour your own drinks

Bazza2 · 22/09/2014 18:58

Thanks! I'm thinking of a sober October and diet combo. I'm sure I'll get busted and I am a dreadful liar so I might have to tell my boss.

I always blamed it on rampant cystitis as people would be too embarrassed to discuss it further
