We are currently expecting our second son. We've agreed on the first name, no problem. For the middle name, we initially bounced around different ones. Dh mentioned that it would be nice to use the last name of a good friend/artistic mentor of his. I was seriously considering it, but then decided I would rather use my maiden name. Rarely, my maiden name can be used as a first name. Unforunately, dh knew someone by this name who was a "jerk". This is why we didn't use it for a first name with ds as I had proposed at one time. However, ds has a family name as a middle name and I think it would be nice for this baby to have a family middle name as well. Plus it sounds a lot better than the other one. I can see this issue heating up rapidly.

I prefer Finlay too

Women should have the last word on a name debate as we have to go through labour - thats what I told DP anyway.

I wanted to call DD2 Millie but Millie Reid sounds like Millie pede curse on DP's surname.

I prefer Finlay - but it needs to be FinLAY rather than FinLEY!!

But then I'd be into it with my dad as well!

I have 3 siblings and they are all named after someone in the family (grandmother - mum - and dad) I'm the only one not named for someone and growing up I did have issues with this and thought it most unusual that they did it for 3 but not me! am ok with it now ( but being a parent now I still think it v v odd)
I'd go for the family name

Yep, I like the idea of the boys having their own unique first name, but a family name for the middle. Just seems right to me.
