Hi,
My DH and I have been TTC for about 6 months and we just got our very first BFP! We are both very excited but DH doesn't want to tell anyone yet, incase we jinx it. I'm dying to tell someone so that's why I'm here :-).
Also I just wanted to check if advice I got from my doctor's surgery is normal as it contradicts the NHS choices website. I rang the surgery this morning to make an appointment with the doctor (as recommended on NHS choices website). I was told by the receptionist that unless I'm actually ill or don't want to continue with the pregnancy then I don't see a doctor at all, she just booked me an appointment with the midwife for when I am about 8 weeks gone, which is in about 5 weeks time, and until then I just sit tight and wait. She told me that's how it's done now and the website is out of date. Is that your experiance?

Yes, I didn't have a GP appointment, the receptionist just checked that I was taking folic acid, congratulated me and booked me an appointment with the midwife for when I was 7/8 weeks.

Congratulations! :)

Yep that's normal.

Yes, I booked a docs appt 'to confirm' as I thought that was the done thing; doc said the tests are so reliable now that no further confirmation necessary, get some folic acid, congrats and buh-bye!

I also booked an appt with doctor to confirm but it really was a waste of time -best to go direct to the mw.

Oh good! That's alright then :-) Though the receptionist didn't even check I was on folic acid, bit of luck I am anyway, and now started taking pregnacare. Thanks for the reassurance! xx

Congrats on the BFP! you must be really excited!
Yes theres not much to do now except wait for that first midwife appointment! I bet it seems like ages away, especially if no-one else knows about the pregnancy yet. Have a check on the NHS website for 'foods to avoid' and other advice on medication, exercise etc. And distract yourself with mumsnet for a while!
