vitamin experts - how much vit A is too much?

Ran out of my usual preg vits so have been taking the regular multivit+iron that I took pre-preg, but just reading the label and it has 800 micrograms/100% RDA of vit A. Is that too much? Eating a fairly healthy diet but have always tended to be a bit low on iron. I'm 33 weeks if that makes any difference? TIA

No idea but too much vitamin A carries the risk of causing brain damage, I certainly wouldn't risk it and would rather go without vitamins at all.

I steered clear of multi vitamins for this reason. Not sure what the actual limit should be though.

depends what type of vitamin A it is i.e. whether it is retinol or beta-carotene. It is the retinol form that you should avoid too much of in pregnancy although I would be cautious and avoid taking a non-pregnancy vitamin supplement

I think the recommeneded is up to 800mg but I wouldn't worry at this stage. I panicked about this at the beginning, but I seem to remember reading an article from the WHO that said no negative effects of Vitamin A have been found after the initial development phase? I don't know how true that is, but I would have thought taking a bit extra at 33 weeks shouldn't be a problem if it's already done. Where I live, they don't even advise against taking too much Vitamin A and babies seem to be OK so try not to worry!
