I have a good friend getting married on 14th July. I will be 19 weeks by then. I held out on buying anything so far as I just didn't know how big I would be. This is DC1.

Anyway, having scoured a lot of websites, asos, topshop, seraphine, new look I don't see anything in maternity sections that appeals to me at all. And the worst part, it's sale season.

My bump popped out about 10 days ago. I haven't really put on that much weight so far, and im generally around 10/12 size.

Anybody seen anything nice? Or can make a recommendations? I think i want to steer clear of maternity gear, it's just all samey and also I feel like I don't have enough of a bump to justify a maternity dress yet. That and, it would be good to buy something I could wear post pregnancy.

Im happy to spend up to £100 but don't really want to spend more than that since I will prob have new shoes bag etc to get.

Time is definitely running out!

Maxi dress, you can wear it again then.

prettywhiteguitar · 01/07/2014 17:42

Style and beauty section has loads of suggestions !

redexpat · 01/07/2014 17:49

seraphine maternity have nice dresses for 50 quid. good enough for hrh, good enough for me!

redexpat · 01/07/2014 17:51

and you will wear it again after pregnancy. snapping back doesnt happen quite as quickly as the name suggests.

Tiffany Rose. Can get off ebay and also sell on very easily. Can be worn with or without a bump I have found! Best investment ever

SummerSazz · 01/07/2014 17:53

monsoon maxi dress I linked this on another thread - it is fabulously comfy and jersey material so should drape nicely over a bump. Team with comfy wedges Smile

I went to a wedding a few weeks ago and was 28 weeks, I bought a New Look maternity maxi and just dressed it up with a fascinator and some jewellery so it didn't feel too plain. It was black but had big pink flowers on, it was by far the most flattering thing I tried on and I felt really nice in it.

They are in the sale at the moment :)

I got a gorgeous JoJo Maman Bebe dress off ebay for afriends wedding and it was so so comfortable and I had lots of compliments. Its paid dividends in this heat too as its one that can be dressed up or down. Ill look for a link.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 01/07/2014 18:01

it was the pale blue polka dot version of this dress

Amazing quality, well fitted and fully lined too.

I have both of these Great Plains maxi dresses from my pre-pregnancy days:
blue
green

I'm almost 16 weeks with DC3, and have a definite bump! These are pretty flattering without looking like maternity wear, and the sizing comes up huge so you'd probably get any with an XS (which is all they have left in the sale).1

FTMK · 01/07/2014 18:23

I was 18 +4 at a wedding weekend before last. I didn't want a mat dress. Bought a dress from Great Plains in black - just sized up so I didn't feel too self conscious.

Straight up and down with a looser cut suited me as I am looking fat not pregnant ATM. Good luck

A maxi or midi dress would work or one that gathers under the bust and flares out. Debenhams have quite a few near the prom dresses in store but depends on what colour you want and whether you like jewels/beads on clothes.

Eastwiththem · 01/07/2014 20:38

I went to a wedding at 22 weeks and wore this. Tried a few similar styles on with drapey/gathered fronts and stretchy material and they all worked well with a little bump. Plus I wasn't so concerned about cost as I'll be able to wear it with mummy-tummy and big knickers or on its own when I get thin again.

thanks for all the suggestions folks. Im not the biggest maxi dress fan, but im loving the great plains suggestions. Off to scour the internet now. Thanks!!

I was at a wedding last week at 32 wks so bigger bump than you and wore a Seraphine wrap dress which cost £50. Pale blue with white dots. They're made to expand with your bump. I wore a size 10 and still fitted fine despite expanding some what in the 3 weeks since I bought it. Loads of compliments from people!

RedPony · 01/07/2014 23:36

I bought a lovley dress in new look on the weekend. It's a dusty pink colour and is fitted round the bust with a floaty skirt. It's very flattering and was only £24.99. They had quite a few different styles in the maternity section

weebairn · 02/07/2014 08:06

You're probably quite little still so I wouldn't buy anything too loose or floaty. I found at that stage anything like that just made me look enormous. It's ok once you've got a very obvious bump to fill it out. I would have gone with something more fitted and done a lot of bump-stroking!

Alternatively you may only have a really little bump and thus be able to wear something non-maternity and not really look any different.

I recommend wearing something very comfortable though! I always feel shit when I wear something uncomfortable no matter what size I am.

Asos have a big range of casual to dressy dresses. Reasonably priced too.

LittlePeaPod · 02/07/2014 08:46

I wasn't showing at 19 weeks but when I started showing I got some lovely stuff from here.

I wore this to a wedding two weeks ago and got so many compliments about it! It's so light and comfortable, yet flattering!

Looks much better in real life and I am going to wear it loads over the summer!

Martie1 · 02/07/2014 11:59

weebairn you've hit the nail on the head. I think my bump is too little for a proper maternity outfit, weighed myself this morning and im all of 9stone 13. Im 5'6. So that's me having put on 5 pounds in 17 weeks. Freaking out that I should be putting on more but I eat plenty every day, a good mix of fruit, veg, carbs, water and treats.

My pregnancy spanx arrived this morning! Im bridesmaid for my sister later this summer and will need them for the bridesmaid dress which is very slim fitting. Thought I'd get them early though so I could wear them to my friend's wedding and also thought they might be useful with non-maternity dresses to make me feel still glam. Plus I may as well get the wear out of them.

Ordered a load of stuff off asos last night and a dress off great plains. SOme maternity, some non-maternity and really hoping something will work. Plus my friend is giving me a dress that she wore to a wedding during her pregnancy though she really is a poppet so im not optimistic it will fit. At least I have my spanx!

Thanks for all the help ladies, have looked at all your beautiful suggestions!

I'm 21 weeks and will be wearing this maxi in the navy to a wedding when I'm 24 weeks. It is much much nicer IRL than onscreen here where it looks a bit cheap. The navy is nice and dark and flattering. Planning to wear with some statement earrings.

I ordered 7 dresses to try on from ASOS and this was the one that worked best on me :) Good luck, I'm sure you'll find something!
