Bleeding in pregnancy - Can anyone reassure me?

Hello

I'm 14 weeks pregnant. I had a bleed pretty much as soon as I found out I was pregnant - it was quite bad and I thought I may have miscarried. Scan at 6 weeks showed baby with heartbeat and no obvious cause for bleeding, obvs very happy and bleeding appeared to have settled down. Had dating scan last week and again, all good.

Today I've had another (small) bright red bleed, some in the loo but mainly just when I wiped. Completely panicked and rang epau who told me to monitor it. Red blood stopped pretty quickly and have just had brown discharge since. Spoke to epau again and they said this is good as means bleeding has stopped and is just old blood making it's way out, and that they would only want to see me if I had pain, clotting or bleeding more than a period.

So trying not to worry, but obviously I am. This is second pregnancy and never had any problems with my first. Does anybody have any positive stories to reassure me with?

I've had two miscarriages and have 2 DC. I had no bleeding with the miscarriages and bleeding with both pregnancies.

Spurious · 19/06/2014 19:13

Sorry I meant bleeding with both DC.

Solasum · 19/06/2014 19:14

I bled early on and thought it was all over. I am listening to DS snuffling away as I type. Thanks

Thanks Spurious :-) I'm sorry to hear of your miscarriages.

Hi Lord, I bled all the way through my last pregnancy. It just became normal tbh, Lots of scans (bonus!) but baby was fine and they never found where the bleed was coming from. DS was born at 34 weeks perfectly healthy, if a little small at 4lb 10. He's now 6 ft something! FX for you! xx

This sounds similar to me, I had some brown blood round 5-6 weeks then had brown discharge for the past week or so and am 15 weeks tomorrow, know how you feel! I am going to epu next tues. Will read any reassuring stories with interest!

I bled weeks 1-2, 5, 6, 8, 13, 25. Bright red small gush followed by brown each time. That baby is now a happy 4 year old.
Turned out I have a slow clotting speed and a propensity for random bleeding. Try not to panic but ask for check ups for peace of mind.

I bled every day for 3 weeks from 6 and a half weeks. It was quite heavy to start with and I had cramps too. After 2 scans a sch was diagnosed.

I've mc'd as well. The mc was discovered by a scan and I had no bleeding at all until after the mc had been confirmed by a second scan.

I read somewhere that a bleed means an mc 50% of the time, so things are as likely to be fine as not.

mewkins · 19/06/2014 21:50

I have had bleeding in all pregnancies. I had a mc with my first, then my dd (also had bleeding for several weeks leading up to about 13 wks) and am due to have dc2 next week (!) I had such heavy bleeding at about 8/9 wks that I thought it was all over and didn't even bother booking a doctor's appointment. However still 'felt pregnant' and so went for scan at 12 weeks (still with some bleeding) and was fine. My dm also had this during her pregnancies and quite a few friends have and gone on to be fine. It is such a worry though and everything goes on hold. I hope that all goes well x

Thanks everyone for all your replies, it really helps to read all your positive stories. I've not had any more bleeding so am hopeful that everything is ok. Would be nice if I could have a scan just to put my mind at ease but EPAU say it isn't serious enough to warrant one :-/ at least I should start to feel movement in the next few weeks so that will give me peace of mind.

Thanks again :-)

I had very heavy bleeding and thought it couldn't be anything but a miscarriage with the amount of fresh red blood. This was at 12 weeks and it turns out it was cervical erosion but it another cause could be a haematoma. I know it's very stressful and wish you the best for your pregnancy.

I'm in a similar-ish position. I've had brown spotting since about week 7. Sometimes it goes away, but it always seems to come back. I had an early scan at 10 weeks, then my dating scan at 12 weeks, then an extra scan at 13 weeks as the spotting suddenly increased to bigger smears of brown blood.
Each time the scan has been fine, showing no signs of miscarriage and the baby happy and healthy. EPU couldn't find any cause for the bleeding and I was discharged with the advice 'sometimes it just happens'. But I have also been told that if at any point it changes again, to get referred again via the GP and they will scan me again on the same day. They've been great and very reassuring. Yours don't sound so helpful, if it's really worrying you ask again.
I'm now nearly 15 weeks, and just desperate to feel proper movements so that I can have more knowledge that the baby is ok. I know it's most likely nothing at all to worry about, but it IS worrying to see blood, and I just wish it would stop! I hope yours clears up soon, or that you can get a scan to put your mind at rest.
