Can't stop worrying about toxoplasmosis :-(

16 weeks pregnant and have a toddler. I keep panicking about getting toxo from him - there's been a couple of times when his fingers have ended up in my mouth after he has been playing in the garden/outside. He hasn't been digging in flower beds or anything but he does topple over and gets dirt on his hands.

Am I being silly? By the way I know I'm not immune because I had a test a few weeks ago after a similar incident

Obviously toxoplasmosis is a concern in pregnancy, as are things like chicken pox, slapped cheek, food poisoning, etc. But if it were that easy to contract, it would be absolutely rife. I, too have an muddy toddler but so do lots and lots of pregnant women.

I hope this doesn't sound rude but if this is really preying on your mind, it may be less about toxoplasmosis and more about some general anxiety that you have somewhere in the back of your head. Please have a good chat with your GP about the fact that this bothers you so much. They are in position to properly reassure you.

Thanks TryDrawing. I do suffer from anxiety when pregnant. I did terribly last time and in fact this time I'm a lot calmer believe it or not. But being told that I'm being ridiculous always helps and being reminded that I'm bit the first person to get pregnant with a toddler that gets dirty Grin
