We just found out on Sunday that we are pregnant. One of my many worries is that I do a bit of heavy lifting in my job!

Congratulations! Maybe get some advice on heavy lifting, you might need a risk assessment.

If people look a bit nauseous when you announce your pregnancy you can say instead "I'm pregnant"/"we're expecting a baby".

I found out yesterday too! Probably between 3 and 5 weeks, just waiting to call the doctors now and get an appointment!

I also have concerns about my job - I'm self employed - I own a shop and I'm an event manager, with no staff, I do everything, so I've got to figure out how to keep my business alive while I take time off too...

Depending on what you are lifting you should be fine in the early months. You do need a work placed risk assessment. I would speak to you MW if you are concerned.

If it helps I was lifting heavy weights at the gym and still training really hard in the early days. Everyone is different though.

Congratulations by the way.

Congratulations :) me too! Ask your HR department for a Risk Assessment in confidence. We often carry them out this way. No need to go public but maybe best to make sure.
