Ive convinced dh that we should get an early scan. As this is our first I would like to put my mind at rest.

wondering when we should do it. Im 6 weeks now so thought maybe 8-9 weeks then we would have our 12 weeks shortly after.

any advice?

Id try and wait till the 8/9th

Sorry posted too son lol.

Id try and wait till the 8/9th week, i had a scan at 6 weeks with this pregnancy all we could see was a little black flashing dot ( heartbeat ) a fetal pole and another small bob. Wasnt very reassuring and sonographer dated my pregnancy from conception instead of lmp and told me i was 4 weeks pregnant ( i wasnt, i was 6 ) but that caused unnecary pankick and upset.

Had my 8 week scan yesterday and we could see what i can only describe as a jellybaby lol. Saw heartbeat but baby didnt look very human yet. I would wait unil 9 weeks if you can.

Just being nosy but are you planning on paying for a scan or going through NHS? NHS wont do an early scan unless theres a problem bleeding ect x

I agree with shazam that 8-9 weeks is the best time. split the wait for the 12 week scan, avoid any uncertainty that might arise due to late ovulation etc, if everything is positive at 8 weeks miscarriage risk drops to 3%.

For various reasons I had scans at 4,5,7 and 10 weeks with this pregnancy. The private one we had at 10 weeks was lovely, the baby looked like a baby then and was moving and things.

I'd say wait until after 8 weeks at least as the risk drops then so you'll feel reassured. Plus it doesn't leave too long to wait until your 12 week scan!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Yes the very early ones you don't see much at all (like claret I had lots). The one I had at 8 weeks was nice, you could see enough to be moving/fascinating and also it is v. reassuring as a good scan at 8 weeks means your chance of miscarriage drops a lot.

Yeah I had a private scan at 10 weeks too, had a lovely picture from it, very baby-like! X

I agree wait till 10 weeks! If it's for dating NHS do it I got pregnant on the pill with baby 3 so no idea of dates got app to go to scan the same day.
Good luck and enjoy x

Thanks all! Yes waiting till 9 weeks sounds like a good plan. Even with ms every day I still want some reassurance!!

shazam we will pay for a private one. Ive checked and its about £80 which I dont mind paying. Im sure I would be more relaxed if it was a second pregnancy! Means I would also be happy telling close family and friends after 9week scan. Just cant wait now!

Better get a gp appointment too... eeeek x
