Hi all

My last pg 8 years ago was induced due to swelling and high bp.

I am not due for appt til next week (36 weeks), but had lots of period like pain last night that stop me sleeping and eventually woke me up. I have a foul headache this morning - struggling to type and read and everything seems a bit slow. My hands and feet are swollen and were first thing this am. At my last check up my bp was 135/80, at the second attempt. It is normally about 115/65-70.

I have had a few trips to hosp for suspected dvt and a bug that started contractions at 33 weeks, but subsided after being given a gtn patch and I am reluctant to go back for a bit of swelling, esp if I have no idea about bp or protein.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Spam, how are you today?

Hi, I am 10 weeks pregnant and have just had my blood pressure taken and told it is high 150/80, this has done me no favours as I am now really anxious so b/p is probably worse. My mother suffered pre-eclampsia with both her pregnancys but 10 weeks seems very early on. I am on a low salt diet, but wondered if there is any other advice as to how to lower my b/p, or if anyone else suffered high b/p early on. I haven't seen the midwife yet and I am waiting for ECG results so will know more then, but I really want to try a nd enjoy my first pregnancy but I just seem to be worried about everything. Some advise would be appriciated.

Hi, I had borderline high bp during my first trimester (especially towards the end of it, like you) with both my pregnancies. With dd, it dropped to normal levels as soon as I hit the second trimetser - then started to climb again towards the end of the third, and I was induced at 39+4 weeks because of it. dd was fine, and I never had pre-eclampsia - just pregnancy hypertension. It actually went up again a week after delivery, and I had to go on meds for six weeks...then it went back to normal and stayed there.
I'm currently 28 weeks pregnant, and after the first 12 weeks of similar readings to yours, my bp dropped to low/normal...I've been warned its likely to get high at the end again, but there are drugs I can take to lower it if necessary and you can take them whilst pregnant.
If you've only had one high reading, its very possible that it was just a one-off spike...and the bottom number is usually considered more crucial than the top one, and 80 is not high: its within normal range by a whole 10 points. If you were stressed, the top number may have been affected anyway.
I would think they will keep a close eye on your bp, which is the responsible thing to do, and impossible as it is...try not to worry too much: it'll probably be fine, and in the rare event it isn't, there is lots they can do to manage it.

sorry - didn't really answer your ?!
Gentle, regular exercise (swimming, walking) can help, relaxation, and as yo'ure already doing, low salt intake. Mine is probably genetic, so none of those work - but they do'nt hurt either!

hi there i had pre eclampsia with both my little girls and i would advise you to call your midwife they are there to help the headache you describe usually does not fade with painkillers i had bad headaches that didn't go away its a common sign to watch out for did you say you had slight oedema because i had this very suddenly with my girls and my midwife said that it is extremely important to seek help at that point not trying to scare you but its better to be safe than sorry

kattykins · 16/09/2006 16:58

i had it very badly with my first daughter but not quite as bad with my second

Elibean · 16/09/2006 17:22

Sorry, should have said my posts were to dongemeafina....not OP, who has had much better feedback than I could give, not having had pre-e. Hope alls well!

i had pre-eclampsia with my first pg and have had high bp and protein in wee etc in my 3 subsequent pgs.i am 14 wks gone now with no.5,and my bp was quite high at the start(138/88) but last time it was
160/103 at 6 weeks.it went down by the end of first trimester and rose again towards the end(34 weeks onwards).i was on medication in my last 2 pg's at the end and was induced at 38 weeks.i dont think 150/80 is anything to worry about as such.i found those drinks that flora pro-active made, the ones to reduce blood pressure rather than cholesterol, helped alot but i dont know if they still do them.

dongeamafina · 19/09/2006 12:20

Hi Elibean and Divastrop, thanks for the great replies, they really have helped to stop me feeling so anxious and I am definitley going to try to find those flora drinks!
I to found out the high bp is common in my family so low salt and excersice may not help too much but I am starting antenatal aqua and yoga in the next couple of weeks so it can only help surely.
Does anyone know what the correct bp is , as I ve been told that it is 140/80 so mine is only just over but looking at a few of the other messages some people think their bp is high at 130 or so. I'm quite confused, also some of your messages mention dd, what is this? I will get another test done on thurs and my ecg results so hopefully will have more of an update then.
Thanks again for the advice.
