I feel a bit embarrassed that I have a bump so early on :( I've not gained a huge amount of weight (just 3lb since conception) but people are remarking on how I'm already showing and my waist line is definitely disappearing with each day.

My partner has been lovely, saying how it's nice and firm and it's just the baby. But I think there's probably a fair amount of fat too.

Up until last week I could pull my tummy in and look normal. Now I pull it in and still have a bump. I look more pregnant than my friend who is 23 weeks!!

I have a very lordotic spine, which I think makes it worse. But people keep saying 'oh I didn't show till I was 20 weeks with my first' etc etc which makes me wonder if I'm a bit abnormal.

Really thought I'd be proud of my bump, but at the moment I just find it embarrassing and really trying to hide it.

I had a bump at 12 weeks! People had guessed before I even had my scan! Don't worry about, everyone is different and carries in different ways. In fact my friend who was a few weeks ahead hated the fact that everyone thought I was more pregnant. Oh, and I had put on more than 3 pounds by 16 weeks. Lost it all after so seriously don't worry Smile

I'm 17 weeks and have had a bump since about 10 weeks. So far I've put on a stone in weight. Everyone gets bumps a different stages and it can depend on your build too. There's some days I think my bump is tiny, other days I feel like I'm smuggling two cantaloupes and a watermelon under my top.

Missingcaffeine · 16/05/2014 07:23

I had a definite bump at 16 weeks (I'm now 22) and this is my first. I actually wasn't fitting properly in my clothes and had a bit of a bump from about 9 or 10 weeks. I didn't look much different at 20 than 16. I put on loads in the first trimester, and it's slowed slightly since the nausea has gone. Find some clothes that are good at hiding it if you are self-conscious. I managed to hide it at work until 20 weeks despite obvious bump - just chose clothes carefully.

StretchyCat · 16/05/2014 07:36

I had a bump early with my first too. I think some people do just show early. Maybe you have the placenta out front as well, that's what happened with me. I did the whole taking a photo every week thing and from about 14 weeks you can definitely see a bump.

Littleturkish · 16/05/2014 07:38

I had a bump from about six weeks!! Weight just moved around and I got thinner everywhere but my tummy. Didn't even gain any weight. I measured on the 50th all the way through and was back to pre baby weight in four months. Nothing to worry about.

Littleturkish · 16/05/2014 07:38

Sorry- that should say- didn't gain any weight until 20 weeks in.

mssleepyhead · 16/05/2014 07:47

I'm a teacher and was outed by my pupils as pregnant at 14 weeks because of my bump...

twiglet2 · 16/05/2014 08:58

I'm 13 weeks and my clothes are getting a bit snug. I think its mainly bloating/fat, but my husband says it a bump.

RAFWife12 · 16/05/2014 09:07

I have just looked back at my weekly pics, I did have a bump at 16 weeks (this is my first). I had only got back up to my pre-pregnancy weight at 15 weeks (lost weight due to sickness in 1st tri). Don't forget - its not only baby in there! You also have all your organs being squished and moved around to allow space for baby. Everyone carries differently and shows at different stages. Be proud of your bump!

squizita · 16/05/2014 10:01

I started getting a bump week 16 and people told me that was late ... ignore the judgements, people always have an opinion! :)

It stayed teeny until week 21 when it jumped up in size. People still told me I was 'small' even when they didn't know how far along I was... like, if I had been 12 weeks just telling, they'd still have said that. Duh.

eurochick · 16/05/2014 10:12

I had a bump by then too. My spine also curves in quite a bit.

Darksideofthemoon88 · 16/05/2014 12:42

I'm having my first and I didn't show until about 20 weeks - BUT I then spent the next 8-10 weeks just looking fat rather than pregnant. I think I'd rather show early!

alita7 · 16/05/2014 13:12

My belly first stuck out a little bit at about 6 weeks, but at 10 weeks I had what was to me noticably a bump. At 15 weeks I feel massive and have a definite bump that sticks out further than my now 34 ff boobs!!! It's normal!

capecath · 16/05/2014 13:19

I don't think so. Everyone and every baby is different and bumps grow at different rates. Doesn't necessarily mean baby will be big or small either! At that stage you can also experience bloating, plus your body is starting to accumulate fluid. It is a bit of an awkward stage because you probably notice your expanding waistline more than anyone else, but don't necessarily look pregnant to everyone. I'd say, don't listen and compare yourself to anyone else, keep healthy and wear your bump proudly:)

Darksideofthemoon88 · 16/05/2014 13:47

Good point there, Capecath: at 36+1 (not counting down or anything....!), I feel bloody enormous, but everyone else says I'm tiny and can't believe how far along I am. Baby is expected to be around 7lb though, so certainly not tiny, and I'm too short to be carrying her 'spread out' either. I guess everyone just carries differently. As long as you and baby are healthy, I think that's all that's important Smile

ohthegoats · 16/05/2014 13:54

I had a bloat bump until about 14 weeks, then it all disappeared for awhile, then it's recently reappeared, hard and quite high at 20 week. I'm a teacher and no children or parents have guessed (that I've heard about anyway) - a colleague said today that I look much more pregnant this week, but of course she knows I am, so...

Bellyrub1980 · 16/05/2014 21:12

Thank you for the replies. It's reassuring to hear I'm not the only one with an 'early bump'... I'm quite surprised at how easily people comment on the size of the bump! Mostly from people who I really don't consider to be rude. I think they're just compelled to say something.

The truth is, I don't really care what people think about me exactly, but by commenting on the bump they're kind of commenting on the baby. As if I'm doing something wrong. I think that's why I feel sensitive to it.

My best friend warned me that being a mum does seem to go hand in hand with feeling judged all the time.... I guess this is where it starts!

I had a bump from 14 weeks. Am now 26 weeks and look more pg than a colleague who us 32 weeks. The most annoying bit is the comments from others but I don't think there's anything to worry about so just enjoy it. I have an anterior placenta so don't know if that makes a difference?

TeaandHobnobs · 16/05/2014 21:36

I definitely had a bump by 16 weeks - I came back to work after the Christmas break, and most people wondered if I had just overindulged Grin
Didn't take long until I was receiving comments about how huge my bump was and how I looked ready to drop... which was oddly portentous as DS arrived at 31+5!
Just try to filter out ill-judged comments Smile

StrangeGlue · 16/05/2014 22:55

I had a bump at 12 and was properly very pregnant looking by 15 weeks. Sounds totally normal
