25 wk midwife appointment comment on low placenta

I found out at my 20 week scan that my placenta is a low lying posterior that is not covering the OS. They said there isn't a problem with this, it will probably move and I have a scan at 36 weeks to check if its moved or not, I am 22 and this is my first baby. Today I am 25+4 and had a midwife appointment, everything went great but she seemed rather surprised/shocked I hadn't had any bleeding and said that with a low placenta you usually bleed!?? I thought that was only if it was covering the OS which mine isn't? I'm just wondering if it is indeed normal to bleed with a low placenta regardless of whether it is covering the OS or not? From reading I was seriously under the impression it was only expected to happen in the case of a proper placenta praevia thats covering the OS?

I'm not that worried but I would be if I started bleeding! Obviously if I were to I would go to hospital etc but is this something I should be expecting to happen? xxxx

I had a low placenta (not covering). No bleeding. It moved by a later scan. Normal delivery.
Good luck!

Hi I had this too! No bleeding at all just re scanned last week at 34 weeks and placenta has moved up! Its 2.67 cm away from the opening this sounded quite close to me lol but apparently 2 cm or more is fine! I know its hard but try not to worry

I had the same feedback at my 20 week scan, midwife doesn't seem concerned and feels that it's likely to move up by next scan at 34 weeks. No bleeding and I don't feel to stressed about it. I will if it hasn't moved as I am hoping for a home birth. Fingers crossed for us both.

I've had low placenta this time and last time, so low that I've needed a CS, but no bleeding. It's not a given with low placentas!

I've had placenta praevia and haven't bled a drop all pregnancy.

I have this too. I haven't had any bleeding either. Got my scan next week to see if it's moved. Fingers crossed it has!

I had this too, it had moved by 36 weeks. No bleeding. It was 11cm away from the os when rescanned!!
