hi guys,
so I had beef curry lunch box from left over last night I kept the food in oven over night this morning I reheated the the beef curry (the sauce was already mixed in with the rice) in the microwave. . I ate it the rice was hot but the beef wasnt really hot but I still ate a few of the beef im worried that the rice and beef will cause food poisoning/listeriaSad Sad

It is unlikely you will. Slightly possible, but unlikely.

You'll know in a few days.

Remember that only some tummy bugs are risky to pregnancy, and these are not common (there have been only 2 or 3 cases of lysteria in the last 20 years).

If it makes you uncomfortable to eat leftovers, steer clear. There's no point in making yourself not enjoy food cause you're worried. :)

I'd worry more about the rice than the beef as rice kept at room temperature rather than in the fridge can cause food poisoning due to bacteria in the rice that produces toxins that cannot be destroyed by heating. This applies whether or not you are pregnant.

Next time put it in the fridge overnight and reheat until it is piping hot throughout.

If you have food poisoning, believe me you'll know fairly quickly! If you're not sick or have the runs/stomach pain etc. after 6 hours or so, you'll probably be ok.

Listeria doesn't always show symptoms if that's what is worrying you, but the chances of catching it are minute.

You should be fine. NHS says it'll be within 1-5 hours

To make you feel better it's actually common practice in east asia to eat rice that have been kept at room temperature for long periods of time. (Google Japanese bentos if you are in doubt). They are packed lunches with rice in it and they are kept in room temperature until lunch time. I ate quite a few of them when I was 3 months pregnant holidaying in Japan, mostly from train stations. (They are very yummy). I also ate sushi.

Hi op I'm going through the same worries right now however I ate a bit of pâté/terrine which can contain listeria too!

ilovepowerhoop · 29/04/2014 14:24

Pate is more a risk for excess vitamin A so a little bit isnt going to do any harm
