What a day - spent it at EPU

What a day, I've just got back from the hospital.

My background is we started TTC no 3 last month and after testing in CD27 and for bfn, AF started on CD28 (12/4) for almost 7 days. Have felt off since and have had pink discharge, so oddly decided to do a pg test last night (cd12) - BFP!! Then bfp again this morning.

GP sent me straight to the EPU at the hospital who did a urine dip test - positive. Firstly saw the ward sister who said it's obviously too early to be of already this month, 5 weeks would make more sense. Then Saw a gynae doctor who took bloods, gave me an internal to look for clots or polyps and took a swab. He noted some dark brown discharge, but my cervix is closed.

Waited hours for bloods to come back, as they didn't want me to go home and my hcg level was 108.9, which he referred to the consultant gynae who said it's in line with being just pregnant! How the hell can I be when I'm on cd13?! :( tried explaining that several times but he was adamant that I can't be more as had a bfn on 11/4, then a period.

I'm so confused and he doesn't want me to go back for a week to redo bloods then 48 hours after that.

I'm pretty sure 108 is far too low to be viable if I'm 5.5weeks and can't possibly have that high a number mid cycle!

Sigh....

sorry your post is filled with jargon that I can't make sense of.. anyone help me out here?

Poshsausage · 24/04/2014 20:24

Don't know what cd27 28 etched means sorry

TippiShagpile · 24/04/2014 20:27

Unfortunately I think you just have to sit it out and wait for a week or so. It's still very very early.

Good luck OP.

Tranquilitybaby · 24/04/2014 20:32

Cd27 means cycle day 27, or 13dpo as some people write it.

Wow that's potentially exciting news!

it can't be that you have retained material from an early mc as you got a negative test the day before your period.

so... maybe you ovulated straight after lmp or a week after?

they do tell you as a teen that you can get pregnant any time as things can be irregular!

BeginnerSAHM · 24/04/2014 23:00

Sorry to hear about all the stress tranquility! Hopefully that is potentially exciting news. Get some rest and suppose you just have to wait to see if levels go up Confused... Had a similar experience a couple of years ago but when I went to EPU, just got a negative preg test as I had a early m/c. It's good you're bloods are still positive. Fingers crossed.

My March period was 17/3 then last one was 12/4 meaning I only finished it last Friday, so no way could I get a strong positive test 5 days later.

I'm just terrified it's going to be ectopic as the numbers are low but I must be 5 weeks by my dates.

:(

Hi tranquility

Sorry, how stressful. Are you totally sure of your dates? Are your periods regukar? If so, I think I would phone the EPU and be adamant that you are 12 days over last AF.

Are you in any pain? If so I would demand a scan just in case it's ectopic Flowers

Good luck x

Hi Tranquility. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

It sounds odd, but having periods during pregnancy is more common than it sounds. I'm not sure why, but it does happen. When we were TTC our first child, I counted myself out when my period appeared. A week later, I felt shocking, and took a pregnancy test just in case before I visited the doctors- and it was positive!

I had a lot of problems with bleeding during the first few months of pregnancy, but in hindsight have realised that my body simply continued having periods for a few months.

musicalmrs · 25/04/2014 06:46

...in terms of your hCG levels, you may well have ovulated late in your last cycle.

BeginnerSAHM · 25/04/2014 08:23

Yup - tranquility - excellent advice from other posters!! How did you sleep? Also, I think you'll know quite quickly if it's ectopic. Go straight to a&e if there's any pain. Have everything crossed for you
