Just curious if anyone who has had two or more children had similar labours/births? Im 38 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby and I'm wondering if it is a total lottery or if I might experience something similar to my first labour and birth...

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories, they seem like a totally mixed bag so I still have no idea what to expect!!

DD1 was a 12 hr labour, epidural & forceps, had iv antib's and constant monitoring due to blood loss when I arrived in hospital, so stuck on the bed which meant I had the epidural. About an hour of pushing.

DD2 was 1.5hr labour, 12 minutes pushing, actually went from 4cm to baby out in 29 mins. I didn't consciously push, she was coming out regardless of what I did. Only had gas & air and it was fine.

DD was 30 hours from waters breaking to baby, only 40 mins pushing though. I was barely awake at the end I was so exhausted. I can hardly remember it. Only had gas and air and it was so painful (was at home). It was a good experience mostly and being at home afterwards was certainly wonderful but I was so so tired (falling asleep between contractions at the end) and I don't think I can face another labour of that length again.

Maybe I'll go to hospital if it takes more than 12 hours this time. I dunno. I'd love a quick labour. I really felt like my body let me down by going so slow (even though everything was straightforward, not even any tears). I know these thoughts are irrational but I've been unable to shake them since my first birth.

So some of these stories give me hope but I suspect I'm just a slow labourer…!!

Baby was 6 lb 14 oz, do you think bigger ones are quicker?
