Subchorionic Haematoma

I wonder if anyone can give some advice.

I am nine weeks pregnant today after ivf. I had a sudden gush of bright red blood today and rushed to hospital.

They scanned me and baby was still Ok but I had bleeding on either side of the sac in the womb lining. They called it subchorionic haematoma.

I had a blood clot in my last pregnancy which ended in pprom at 18 weeks, so I'm freaking out. I could see a blood clot on the scan in that pregnancy, but This time it looked different... lots of small holes in the lining?

I'm sorry to hear of your previous pprom from a blood clot, has honestly been my worst fear in this pregnancy.

I could tell you that statistically, the odds of a good outcome are in your favour, but understand that with your previous history statistics don't mean much.

Are the hospital doing any extra monitoring/follow up to ease your concerns in light of your previous pregnancy?

Massive congratulations on your pregnancy. These horrible SCH things are more common than I knew, and the odds ARE in your favour but after IVF, I know that means nothing because we have clung to those self-same small percentages when waiting for our BFP's. However, my IVF baby made it to term despite an SCH which bled off and on from 7 weeks until into the second trimester and is now 12 weeks old. It is scary as hell at the time though. Take it as easy as you can, stay hydrated, and keep away from Dr Google if you are strong enough to. Keeping fingers crossed that all is still well with you, and stays that way.

Hi beetling. I had one too after IVF. I bled for 3 weeks non-stop, from 6 and a half weeks. It was incredibly worrying but it resolved itself.

I didn't realise that it was a blood clot that had caused the ending of your last pregnancy (I remember you from the egg buddies thread). I remember that they were speculating about an infection for a while.

Im not sure about official statistics but it doesn't necessarily mean something awful will happen. I am now 31 weeks having had a massive bleed at 12 weeks and another about 16 weeks due to sub chorionic haematoma with lots of little bleeds in between. The clots eventually re absorbed and after 20 weeks I had no more bleeds and thankfully everything is fine now. Just keep in regular contact with doctor/midwife and if you are still bleeding make sure you are not getting anaemic etc. you may have extra scans to check everything. Good luck

Oh Beetle sorry you are going through this. I had one with DS (IVF pregnancy) had bleeding on and off from 4-12 weeks. Mine was possibly a vanishing twin but they were happy it was out of the way of the placenta. It's scary and shit and all they can do it tell you it may be ok and not to worry if there is more bleeding

Thank you all for sharing your experiences. It's been so stressful. Since the day of red bleeding i have had a lot of brown discharge and quite a lot of soreness, but keeping hydrated really seems to help.

It's been a week since it started and I was last scanned, so I think i will pop to my local EPU tomorrow morning to see whats going on.

Sorry for any confusion caused regarding the cause of my last pregnancy loss. I never got a confirmed answer on what the cause was, but the fact that i had a blood clot in that pregnancy also just has me thinking the worst.

Go get some reassurance Beetle they'll be able to tell you if it has shrunk/where it is in relation to the placenta etc.

Just thinking, are you on asprin and/or a heparin (clexane, Fragmin etc)? If you are suffering from clotting it may be worth asking if taking one/both is beneficial.

No, not on anything Vall and to be honest, i don't even know who i'd ask about that!

I still haven't heard a peep about seeing a midwife, and the GP i saw today (worried about deficiencies caused by my IBD, which has flared up), was distinctly uninterested and didn't give me anything.

I am seeing a consultant tomorrow who is a specialist in cerclages (who i had to find and contact directly and then hound my gp for a referral), so maybe he can give me some answers.

My clinic is abroad and have washed their hands of me now.

I had a SCH at 10 weeks that thankfully resolved itself over a few weeks.. 2 bleeds (bright red, almost pink, then turned darker the following day).. mine measured 2 cm sq- which apparently is quite small, the sonographer said she'd seen ones that were a foot long! but generally they resolve themselves. Hopefully it's in no way related at all to your previous incident and just bad luck- try not to worry too much- i was told it's very common and generally nothing to worry about. i assume they'll scan you weekly for a few weeks?

ps i didnt have IVF- and i know a few of my friends (non ivf also) have had SCHs, so i dont know how linked they are?

beetle, it's definitely good, though scary, to go get another scan. I had 5 between 7 and 13 weeks and they kept me sane. Brown blood sounds like the existing clot making its slow way out rather than a further fresh bleed, which is encouraging. On a note of caution, my EPU was not interested in scanning me unless I had a fresh heavy bleed, so most of my scans were private. If you are near London the FMC is great.

St. Georges epu, tooting, we're wonderful when I went there at 7 weeks just for reassurance, so I am hoping that they will be supportive again.

I'm getting nervous just thinking about it

Does anyone know anything about MTHFR and whether it's something I should look into? I was told in another group I should look into it after having this twice now.

I had one - bled constantly for three weeks between 6 and 9 weeks. It was terrifying but the result is lying in my arms feeding now. Also an IVF pregnancy.

Best of luck - I well remember how frightening it was.
