I haven't eaten for 12 hours, so WHY can I still not lie down without getting a mouthful of acid and a burning throat and chest?!

35+4 here and the heartburn/indigestion is sooo annoying! Have put myself on self-imposed "nil-by-mouth" from around 6pm onwards each night as I was throwing up around 3am every night. This has stopped me actually being sick, but I still have the acid! Had tea at 5.30pm and nothing since except antacid tablets, yet at 5.20am I still can't lie down.

If this baby has reflux I will definitely sympathise!!

I'm 34w and have exactly the same problem. I don't eat after 7 but still have constant heartburn all night.

Sorry no advice but I feel your pain!

I had the same problem - practically living off antacid tablets\liquid and gas tablets
What worked for me was giving up wheat! Took a few days to notice the benefits but I am now heartburn and sick free Grin

Ok your getting terrible acid because you haven't eaten. Acid on an empty stomach is worse on full trust me. I have 2 dc and was reduced to tears over acid. Eventually put on omeprazole to stop it. Don't eat a big meal before bed but def have a snack. Some toast very lightly buttered or a plain pasta used to help me. It kinda soaks up the acid it's awful and you have my full sympathy dc def worth it Grin gl

My heartburn/indigestion is always worse when my stomach is empty. Thats why I have to have a rich tea with my cuppa first thing in the morning (or so I keep telling myself, hehe)

I'm 34 weeks tomorrow and I feel your pain.

My heartburn is definitely worse when I don't eat. I've started eating something small every couple of hours and it's got much better. Also crushed ice helps!

I have 3 children and had 3 lots of terrible heartburn. On my last pregnancy my gp prescribed ranatadine which is miles better than your average rennie and they made a massive difference. I also had stuff called mucogel which sounds vile bit is thinner consistency than gaviscon and a lot more palatable. However it me a runs which I considered worth it as the heartburn was so crippling. HTH

Ranitidine saved my life too, didn't have a peep of heartburn once I got into that. Great stuff

Thanks for all the tips Smile Wheat free sounds interesting! I wish a snack before bed would help because I do wake up hungry but the other day I had a handful of mixed nuts at about 9pm before bed but was throwing them up (yes, mushy chewed up nuts-yuck!) by midnight! It seems I get heartburn whether I eat or not, but if I do eat I am sick and if I don't eat I have nothing to throw up.

It's grim but very common in later pregnancy. An empty stomach probably makes it feel worse - nothing to 'dilute' the acid - but throwing up nuts int nice. Have you tried milk? Or hot choc made with milk not water? It acts as food once it gets into your Tum and helps reduce the burn. Failing that, ranitidine (you can buy it over the counter; trade name Zantac, but the generic ranitidine will be cheaper and exactly the same stuff). Your gp should prescribe it (free!) if you want to double check. I got given a box a while ago and it's great when needed. And I know from prior experience that any left over will be bloody fantastic for any problems associated with one glass of wine too many (after delivery, of course!).

I had a bowl of cereal about an hour before going bed, and no reflux for the night! Was brilliant, i was so comfy in bed last night i slept on my left side all night and woke up half numb lol
