Babybond gender scan dissapointment 16 weeks.

So I had my gender scan done yesterday and she gave me a 90% chance for a girl, but not to go buy pink stuff yet. I'm a little dissapointed as I am 16+1 but she meased only 15. I know for a fact I am 16 since my booking scan was an exact match with my dates.

Anyways, she gave me a photo that clearly to me, looks like a penis! Yet she said she's been scanning for 20 years in a hospital so she was fairly sure it was a girl, but she had the coard between her legs. It does not look like a coard, because you can clearly see the coard above the "penis" or whatever it is! Im really hoping for a girl, and the fact she said 90% girl I have to admit I'll be a little disappointed if its a boy when I go back for a re-scan in 2 weeks.

I also posted two 2D photos so you can see the "nub", what do you think? Thanks :)

Forgot to add she thought it was a swollen labia as she could not find testicles, but she thought it was too early to tell :)

I think babies are lovely
baby boys equally as lovely as baby girls
and girls dont havr to wear pink

congratulations on your pregnancy :o

Flibbertyjibbet · 09/04/2014 18:21

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I have two wonderful boys.

RedandChecker · 09/04/2014 18:23

I don't think any one here is going to be any more qualified than your sonographer. Just hoild out buying until 20 week scan if that can give you anymore confirmation.

It doesn't really matter how many weeks she said you were, your due date will stay the same as they gave you on the dating scan.

What is meant to be will be and a healthy baby is a blessing, girl or boy - congrats Flowers

DownstairsMixUp · 09/04/2014 18:25

They both tend to have swollen bits at this stage. I had my scan at 17 and I think it was very obvious it was a boy. This is my second boy to. Please don't be dissapointed, baby boys are wonderful.

LittleBearPad · 09/04/2014 18:26

I'd wait until the anomaly scan at 20 weeks and not bother paying for another scan. It's only four weeks. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Boudica1990 · 09/04/2014 18:30

I found out I was having a little boy much to my DP glee at 14+6, it was very obvious to see IYSWIM I didn't need to be qualified in the slightest to see someone's bits and pieces haha this when then 're confirmed at 20 weeks.

Regardless of boy/girl I wouldn't fret all are lovely and a blessing :)

lilviking · 09/04/2014 18:30

Thanks everyone. She will re-scan me for free in 2 weeks, so not saying no to that :)

Of course I'm just hoping for a healthy baby, though deep down most of us have a little preference :) Either way, a healthy baby is all that matters, I'm just obsessed with pink lol.

16 weeks might just be a bit early for it to be clear. We had a baby bond scan at 18 weeks and she was sure it was a boy so we were able to get some lovely clothes on our baby moon in Paris. Has it confirmed at our 20 week scan today, when all the bits were very clear to see! I also think the NHS scanning equipment gave a much clearer view than the Babybond machine. So just hang on in there for 2 more weeks and see if that time makes a difference.

lilviking · 09/04/2014 19:09

I completely agree, the NHS scans are way clearer than Babybond's. Still, they shouldn't advertise on their website that you can have a gender scan at 16 weeks if its too early. Since Im back in 2 weeks that's just 2 weeks before my 20 week scan which is free. I sort of feel I wasted £79. I was hoping for a little more than 5 prints as NHS gave me 3.

I have no idea, sorry. We had a babybond scan at 16 weeks and they told us they were "pretty certain" it was a girl, I think they gave us 96% as a figure as they can never be 100% sure. It was a clear scan and we had a lovely experience, but I guess it depends on the position that baby is in (which is why they're offering a free rescan) At our 20wk scan we didn't tell them that we knew, and they also told us that it was a girl. They were both right, though I still had doubts up until she was born after reading lots of stories about scans being wrong!

Well if you're disappointed you're having a son now then at least you have time to get over it.

I have three sons and one daughter. I cried with disappointment when I found out the sex of each and every one of them.

I was very sad to say to good bye to the other sex possibility iyswim. It didn't matter which one they were, I was just upset that I wouldn't be having the other regardless.

Now that sounds bonkers but I think pregnancy and parenthood is an awful lot about being forced to rethink and reshape our expectations.

You're obsessed with pink? You can still like pink and have sons. My daughter loathes pink. She's 7. She loathes purple too. She's not the girl I imagined I would have. But she is who is she is and she's brilliant.

I hope you will adore your lovely baby. Boy or girl.

DownstairsMixUp · 09/04/2014 19:52

Thanks stealth Grin

OP I agree with winky to, if it does turn out to be a boy, you could end up with a boy like mine who aged four chooses Hello Kitty things ( he had a hello kitty kitchen) and if we go Smyth's he actually goes to the girls bit first... Hmm Congratulations again!

bakingtins · 09/04/2014 20:03

Well quite. And it sounds likely that the healthy baby you are carrying is also of your preferred gender, so in fact you are just cross that the sonographer won't 100% nail her colours to the mast at 16 weeks??

Roseandmabelshouse · 09/04/2014 20:46

I would be more concerned about checking the baby is ok at your 20 week scan before you get too disappointed about the sex.

Congratulations and try and enjoy!

Proudmummytodc2 · 09/04/2014 22:24

Hits I had one of these done with my little girl and apparently it's common to have swollen parts but they can tell if it's a girl by looking at her bum I know that sounds totally daft but if they start at the bum and slide forward they can see what it is but I never bought anything in pink till I had my 20 week scan just to make sure

Congratulation on your baby! X

grobagsforever · 10/04/2014 20:58

At 14 weeks we were told boy. At 20 weeks we were told a girl, turns out it was just swollen girl bits at 14 weeks! Looked like a penis to me, but no. Our friends were told boy at 12, girl at 16 and boy at 20! You really do need to wait til 20 weeks.
