When do I get to hear baby's heartbeat?

Hi All, apologies if this conversation has already been done... Coming up to 20 weeks now, anomaly scan next week. At what point do you get to hear the heartbeat? Is it at the scan or only at midwife appts? Thanks :)

They might let you hear it at the 20-week scan, certainly I'd expect the MW to get the Doppler out for each of your appointments from now on.

I went to the midwife this week at 17 weeks and she checked the heartbeat and I heard it then.

I heard mine the first time at 12 weeks. And from there on at every appt..
With this one my dr tried at 8 weeks that was after she felt for my uterus and said it feels further along as 8 weeks so she wanted to see if she can find it. Which she didn't..

I had a private scan at 8 weeks and heard the heart beat then, the sonographer let me record it on my camera!
My midwife picked it up with Doppler at an appointment at 16.5 weeks.

First time for me was at my 24 week appointment

For me it was my 15 week appointment

Whenever i seen my midwife or antenatal clinic, they say they are happy for me to hear hearbeat if i want :) just ask no harm in it xx

25 week midwife appointment, saw it at scan, asked to hear at previous midwife appointment but this was the first time dragged dh along to hear too

They played it to me at my 12 week scan! I think it was all passed through a computer etc' though.

My 16 week appt next week has "MW + Dop" so I assume then too.

Thank you ladies, I did ask at my last midwife at my last appointment but she said no!! I will ask at the scan and if not plead with the midwife at my 25 wk appt! I just want to hear it!!!

I asked at my 16wk midwife appointment and she told me no because it's quite difficult to find and she doesn't like women to panic. It's much better to wait until after 20 weeks then it's a lot easier

If you ask nicely, they will almost certainly turn the sound up at your 20 week scan. At scans they can get it quite early. I had amnio this time at about 16 weeks and they listen to the heartbeat aloud throughout that.

Yes, 25 week apt onwards they should listen in too.

Mine have done it from about 14 weeks on, but policy at the hospital here is to not do it before 20 weeks, it really depends on the area and person you're with.

Obviously different areas do diff things, I didn't have the option at 16 week appt, MW said she'd do at 22 weeks.

I heard it at 6+5! We had IVF and they did a scan to check everything was in the right place...and we heard and saw the heartbeat clearly

Scan is different technology to the Doppler takingchances - that's why they can hear it a lot earlier.

The nice guidelines actually don't recommend listening in during antenatal checks but to encourage women to tune into their baby's movements.

I was very reassured when my mw listened in at 15 weeks. It's such a long scary wait until the 20 week scan. Good luck op. Hope it goes well. X
