Just want to know some statistics really. Any woman who are on or have been on insulin for GD, did you put on extra weight? I started today and have 4 weeks until I'm induced. I'm also on metformin. I eat healthy and do at least 3 miles walking everyday. Am I likely to put loads on in 4 weeks? Any info would be great! All I read is that insulin makes you gain weight! :(

I've been type 1 diabetic for over ten years injecting insulin four times a day and my weight isn't THAT different now from what it was than I was diagnosed. I would say that insulin is a hormone, one that can make you gain weight, but everyone reacts to hormones differently, that's why some women gain weight when they go on the pill and others don't. You sound like you have a healthy active lifestyle anyway so wouldn't worry too much about weight gain, the consequences of not taking insulin would be much worse than gaining a few pounds. Hope that helps :-)

I don't think insulin makes you gain weight, more than a lack of insulin makes you loose weight ( in a bad unhealthy way like the fact that bowel disease or cancer can make you loose weight). As long as you eat healthily and exercise any weight gain shouldn't be excessive.

Thanks. Just really trying to manage my weight sensibly through pregnancy and would hate to gain an unreasonable amount this close to the end.
