HG - if you had it 1st time around, did you get it again?

That's it really. It started bang on week 7 with my first pregnancy and I'm fast approaching that day with DC2 - hoping it will not return, so interested to hear others experiences.

Currently feel a bit nauseas but that's it.

Had it with my first, from 5 wk till the bitter end!

this time it's "just" morning sickness, started at 8 wk and seemed to stop at around 18... haven't thrown up / felt nauseous for a week, it's fab!

so there is hope! I hope you have an easier ride this time round :)

Thanks missyamabuki - until the end first time around, blimey that must have been rubbish. So pleased you're having a better one this time - you've given me some hope!

I've got some cyclizine left from last time, so it should tide me over to a docs appointment if it does kick in again.

Are you going find out sex at scan? I wonder if it's gender related in some people.

BTW, it's not hyperemesis gravidarum unless you have significant weight loss and dehydration requiring admission to hospital and IV fluids. It's only the extreme end of pregnancy sickness

I don't think I actually had hg with DC1 but I was horrendously sick all the way through, it wasn't really recognised 15 years ago. With DC2 I was sick a lot again but it eased of to nausea at about 15 weeks and then came back in the last few weeks and with DC3 I had horrible nausea until week 15 then it came and went all the way through then ramped up in the last few weeks again but I was never actually sick. DC1&2 were girls and DC3 was a boy, 12 years between last 2

it can change from preg to preg but I'm afraid that according to some highly experienced people, if you have it once you're 80% likely to get it again :(

do get meds early. Researchers now reckon that the earlier you get the meds, the more likely they are to cushion you from the worst of the HG. Wiating until you've lost a load of weight is too late.

just a thought, it might be worth eating and especially drinking as much as you can now, just in case it does hit.

I have 2 dds (10 years and 6 years)
i had hg with the first, awful weeks in hospital on a drip, anti-emetics til week 22. Off work for weeks. Couldn't drink adequate fluids until after the birth. Was the lightest weight I have ever been at 6 months pregnant.

With dd2 I had nausea from week 5, with dizziness. Followed by vomiting (but only2-3 times a day!) until around 14 weeks. With dd2 I described it as terrible all day sickness. (If I didn't know the true horror of hG I may have thought I had it bad with second pregnancy, but I was grateful to be able to eat)

I am not having any more babies, we nearly didn't have dd2. All the best to you op x

Hi terrible - DC1=girl, current pregnancy=boy.

Spoke too early and today I started my morning vomiting bile while a cheerful DD banged on the toilet door... been nauseous all day despite the cyclizine.

I second what has been said re getting meds early. With DD I was only given medication after my second hospital admission. I was severely dehydrated and had.lost over 10% of my body weight in just over a week. It's hard to get back to normal after that! This time I went to GP's as soon as I tested positive and they gave me.a huge supply of cyclizine, no questions asked.

To give you an.idea of the difference in both pregnancies:
1st: off work for weeks; 2nd: 3 days so far, no hospital admissions
2nd: quite a few "normal" days, ie, no.nausea, no vomiting, eating normally; 1st: not a single one!
2nd: retching or vomiting every morning from 8-18wk, then fine for the rest of the day, apart from a few days when I was vomiting anything between 2 and 8 times; 1st: vom 8/10 times many days, nausea never lifted

Had HG with first baby (girl) in 2003. Was in and out of hospital for re-hydration and was still being sick in labour.

Second baby (boy 2005) and third (boy 2013) just had severe morning sickness which was for the full 9 months but nowhere near as bad as HG. xx

Thanks very much for all if your replies. Thinking about what some have said, perhaps I only had extreme MS last time. I lost weight, still chucked up a fair bit on meds but didn't need hospital just rehydration salts.

No sign of throwing up yet, but tummy does feel a bit sensitive but tiredness doesn't help. Will carry on cramming in food just in case it does come! :)

I've had HG in other pregnancies, but this time (expecting DC4), I think I am so far just on the bad end of normal, so I think it is really variable. I've not noticed any difference in terms of if it is a boy or a girl though. Perhaps this time I am just expecting the worst in terms of nausea and vomiting, so am being extra careful to keep hydrated, rest whenever I can, eat whatever I can etc, keep my expectations of doing anything else very, very low!
