Anyone had a late growth scan?

So, I had an extra scan at 32 weeks and they predicted then that the baby was going to be huge. Every measurement was well off the scale (so well over 95%), my last baby was born 9lb 11oz on due date so every one said this one would be bigger, 10lb+.

Then they decided I should have another growth scan, didn't get done until after 38 weeks. This predicted the baby as being pretty average - results around 60-75%.

I know late growth scans especially are very inaccurate but this would mean the baby has put on hardly any weight in six weeks, which is a bit worrying. The midwife at the hospital dismissed the growth issue and just said he was obviously fine as his weight was fine. Except I asked about growth not weight. GGGrr. I didn't even want the extra scan and now its worrying me.

Anyone got any experience of how accurate these growth scans are?

I had mine at 30.32,34 and eventually discharged from consultant led when I was 36 weeks. I was high risk for the same reason, ds1 was over 10lb and I wanted another home birth with ds2,

I was told that he was 'no bigger' than ds1 so they were happy for me to go ahead with the home birth and eactually ds2 was 3 weeks earlier than ds1 and 'only' 8.8lb.

They were on exactly the same growth line (putting on half a pound a week), so in my case, very accurate.

Hi I had several due to being diabetic last one at 34ish weeks and my dd either only put on 4oz in last 4 weeks(born at 38) or the growth scan was out by over a pound.

I had one at 36 weeks, they were concerned baby was too small. Gave birth at 38weeks to 9lb 4 baby so I'd say not accurate at all!

I had one at 34 + 36 weeks and told DS was measuring 8lb then 9lb, he was born at 37 weeks weighing 7lb 6oz.

Had the opposite with DD, scans at 28, 32, 34 and 36 weeks told she was going to be 6lb at the most, she was 7lb 11oz.

I had one at 36 weeks and was predicted a mid to high 5lb-er. DS was induced and at 38+4 weighed a completely average 6lb 11.5oz. So a fair bit off the growth scan prediction!

Growth scans are commonly out by 1lb either way. I wouldn't worry!

Does everyone have one kf these towards the end or are they if you have medical probs? Or certain things xx

I had a scan at 32 weeks and then 39 weeks, the 39 week scan predicted that ds would be 10 pounds and it was exactly right.

I had one at 37 showing no growth since 34 weeks when she was estimated 6lb... She came out weighing 7lb 11oz and she wasa. Few days early lol.. They r so inaccurate especially if babe is engaged x

I've been having growth scans every 4 weeks since I was 24 weeks due to medical conditions I have. Baby has consistently been above the 100th percentile line at each scan - eek. He once put on well over 2lbs in 3 weeks I've got to have an ELCs due to my health and my planned date has been bought forward to try and reduce the risk of me going into natural labour (because of baby's size) but my midwife doesn't think Ill make it to my CS date anyway. I'm ridiculously uncomfortable and when baby moves it makes me want to cry, he's just so cramped in there, poor thing.

However, like others have said, the accuracy of scans can be questioned and I'm not going to assume anything about his weight/growth - I'll just see what size he is when he arrives

I had a scan with dd at 36 weeks estimating she was 7lb. She was born the next day weighing 8lb

I had one at 36 weeks when the midwife told me the baby was only 3lb. The scan measured him at 5lb and he was born at 42 weeks at 6lb 13

Scan - 7lb

Reality - 10lb 5

Boogles no, not everyone has one - only if you have a medical condition or they have other concerns. I was given a 36 weeks scan as my MW was on holiday for my 34 week appt and my fundal height was measured by another MW. Then when my original MW returned for 36w appt she measured the same fundal height which could have meant baby hadn't grown at all in 2 weeks.
Of course as it turned out the tape measure bit was inaccurate and DS showed completely average on scan and was born at 41 + 1 at a perfectly average of 7lb 7oz.
But given how much the scans cost the NHS we're really lucky to get them so quickly when needed and for free

I was referred for a scan at 36 weeks after MW measured FH as 40 weeks. Predicted 7lb 8oz at term, reckoned he was 5-6lb at the time. DS was born at 39+4, 9lb 8oz. So slightly inaccurate... FH measurement was much better in my case!

I was referred for one at 38 weeks as my fundal height had not changed since my 34 week measurement. It was my first baby so I was worried sick, I had to wait almost a few days for the scan. All came back ok but they said DS would be a small baby but not too small that they'd have to induce. He ended up being 7lbs 12 oz, midwife couldn't believe it. Either could we, I'd been gearing myself up for a teeny baby.
