So I am 40+2 today and eagerly waiting to go into labour. I have just been to the loo for a number 2 and noticed a little bit of blood in the toilet paper as I wiped.
I pAnicked a bit and and took some more toilet paper and wiped first the front area (and I event pushed it inside the vagina slightly) and then a different bit of paper to wipe my bum, both came back with no blood. Also, I am wearing a panty liner and no blood there either...

Should I be worried? Am I imagining things in my labour symptom spotting state?

TIA

I don't think that'll be the plug as it's gunk as well and not just a smear.

Ring the labour ward for advice they'd always rather hear from you if you're at all worried.

Thanks, I am going to wait for a few minutes and check again. I am not in the UK so I can't call the ward, I would have to go there in person And right now DH is putting DS to bed.
Good thing is the baby is moving...

Was it a difficult poo? Could have been a slight fissure and nothing to worry about. The muscular plug is a big bit of gunk, there'll be no doubt when you see that. Hope it's not too now now.

Thanks Notasfast. This one not particularly difficult but I have been a bit constipated this past couple of days, so I think that is probably what it was ( Fingers crossed)

the plug for me was like a large lump of snot that was kind of streaked with blood. (Sorry of anyone is eating their dinner)

I had a little bit of sporting when I wiped while in labour, it's what made me call the ward and they told me not to worry unless there was a lot. My plug came out a little while later. Good luck!

DipDabDabDip · 01/02/2014 20:30

Sporting?? Spotting obviously!

somersethouse · 01/02/2014 20:38

the plug looks like a ... mucus ringed plug! Not a bit of blood, but it is probably a sign that it is not too long now.

Mine came out a few days before I went into labour.

Good Luck! Very exciting!

I had the same symptoms as you OP. No mucus just a bit of pink on the loo roll.

Four hours later... DD!!

galwaygirl · 01/02/2014 20:48

Hi OP, I never saw mucus - got a big gush of blood and freaked out thinking placental abruption and rang ward explaining I still had pink 'watery' stuff not mucus coming out and was morto and excited when they pointed out the watery stuff was my waters!
Seriously had no idea they could be pink - they weren't blood stained that was the colour. But yes initially I had red blood rather than mucus.
Hope all is ok and baby is here soon! Xx

Thank you everyone for the reassurance. I had to take over bedtime duties, but I have been back to the loo and no more blood, so as it was only a tiny amount I am not going to freak out unless more comes out.
Fingers crossed that it's a sign DD is almost here!
