Been admitted this morning with placenta praevia bleeding. Fortunately it did not gush out and fingers crossed it is stopping but I'm feeling quite upset. Really worried about future bleedsas we are not near the hospital (30 mins in car). Also want to continue work on until 34 weeks then gave time at home to prepare/buy things etc but now thinking I might feel safer in hospital.

Hoping the doctors will make a solid plan today of when to schedule birth/ when to come into hospital, feeling very up in the air and under prepared!

If anyone else had pp with bleeds when did you finish work? Did you stay in hospital and When was the baby delivered?

How far are you ? I was 32 weeks with my first bleed, massive bleed lots of blood and was signed off at this point and told to rest, no heavy lifting, no sex :) went home. Another big bleed at 34 weeks, in hospital a few days, told i could go home on bed rest, home one night and another big bleed :( that was 35 weeks so stayed in from then due to concerns it was too dangerous not too, potential to bleed heavily was massive :( plan was to deliver at 38+ by planned section, i also had a prosterior placenta making the section high risk. At 37 weeks bang on i had another bleed in hospital after being sick, had emercency section which went better than good and all was fine :)
You need to be careful, listen to the drs and be prepared for emergencys xx

Hi, thanks, good to hear it worked out well. I am 30 weeks and this bleed was not massive,2 full s-towels then an egg size clot but it has pretty much stopped. I am hoping to be sent home tmrw. They have said see what happens at home, but because of distance from hospital if I bleed again probably will stay in then. Glad to have some more time at home and hopefully work but scared of bleeds, will be on constant bathroom check alert.

Did your baby need any help at 37 weeks? I am glad to have had the steroids today.

I went in at 31 weeks and stayed days. With no further bleeding and 20 mins from the hospital they let me go home but I had to have someone with me at all times. No way would they let me back to work.

I had weekly scans and cross matched bloods until a second bleed at 36 weeks and a section then. She didn't end up in NICU, but was in a hot cot for a few hours and was jaundiced. Breastfeeding took a bit to get established but we got there Smile

No he was fine at 37 weeks :) I had steroids after second bleed, ouch ! lol. I ended up having my blood cross matched every 3 days due to the massive potential for blood loss during section as they had to cut through placenta, in the end i lost 800ml which is average, i had a very good consultant do the op :)

I had praevia with my first. Was admitted at 29 wks with a light bleed and kept for a week even though I didn't bleed anymore at that time. I had the steroids at that time. Home for week 30 and then readmitted again at week 31 with another light bleed - was told I would have to stay for the rest of the pregnancy.

I'm in Ireland and I don't know if they are more cautious here.

Glad I was in hospital because I went onto have a heavy bleed in week 31 and another in week 33 - both times I was glad that there were doctors around. Don't mean to freak you out - this is just what happened to me.

I went on to not bleed between weeks 33 and 38 but just spent my days lying in bed reading and online - I discovered Mumsnet in there! No choice but to just accept it.

I had a section at start of 38 weeks - had to cut through the placenta so a lot of bleeding but I was fine. She was worth every second of it.

Hello! I keep trying to reply but just does not want to post.

Thanks for all your positive stories. I am still in but bleeding has stopped, just v old stuff coming. Really hoping to get home I just need to see the doctors.

Glad they have been so cautious here. Really hoping for no more bleeds but obviously it is unpredictable. I am very pleased it is at least not grade 4 but grade 3 praevia.

Placenta crosses the cervix with a thin band of tissue but is not directly over. Because it is round my side the consultant dies not think it will love though and no movement since I found out at 30 weeks.
