Heart murmur in pregnancy and home birth

I have been told by my GP I have a heart murmur which I'm fairly sure wasn't there pre pregnancy.
I have been referred to a cardiologist and have an appointment in around four weeks when I'll be over 34 weeks pregnant.
Does anyone have experience of this? I really want a home birth and am worried this won't be allowed now.
I know it's hard to advise when I'm yet to see the cardiologist but any experienced would be welcome!
This is my first pregnancy.

Hi pinkpeoniesplease. I have a heart murmur (mild pulmonary stenosis) and for that reason I have had all my babies - 2dd, 1ds and 8weeks pregnant, all under the care of a consultant unit. I wanted a water birth with all of mine and wasn't even allowed that, had to have them in hospital and was advised of an early epidural to reduce the strain on my heart. Needless to say all 3 births were still amazing even if I was in hospital on a bed and not a water birth. Hope this helps a little, but speak to your midwife after your cardiology appointment, which she may even refer you to a consultant for extra advise.

Thanks for you reply, I saw my midwife today and she is going to try and get me an appointment sooner but did say I may end up under consultant care so my birth plans are out of the window!

Well you can still choose a homebirth. I suppose it comes down to whether your health is more important.
