That is a fabulous post - it should be required reading for every pregnant woman.
And it should be called 'The truth (or a bit of the truth) about Motherhood'.

Thank you, I am on day 1 of a daunting ml and that has helped a lot!!

Fantastic blog.

The competitive controlling mums bit is so true unfortunately. I didn't learn that lesson first then round and ended up depressed and having suicidal thoughts second time round.

Tomkat79 · 18/01/2014 21:09

Glad you liked then post. Certainly helped me. I would take DS to all sorts of classes and as soon as he could speak he'd ask to go home!

I saw this today tomkat as well and thought it rang so true. I'm also reading a book called 'what mothers do especially when it looks like nothing' and that is helping me come to terms with the realities of being a mum to a newborn and helping me accept the things I got so upset about last time (mainly feeling like I was doing nothing all day Grin) I would really recommend it.

Really love this - thanks for sharing.

Thank god I was starting to feel like I was doing it all wrong! My baby ends up napping in the sling as she doesn't want to be put down for day time sleeps. Hilariously true, especially loved the part about the screaming baby in one hand and the how to book in the other. Amazon has a good portion of my mat pay as 'one of these books must have the solution'. Thanks for sharing, has cheered me up.

To be honest I think it would be better titled 'The truth about maternity leave for gregarious middle class people'.

It seems to assume you can afford all these classes and outings, that you have enough money to take a while year off, and that you magically have a group of new people to do things with. It isn't like that for everyone.

PacificDogwood · 19/01/2014 10:57

No, but the pressure to 'enjoy the time with your precious LO' is the same for everyone.
And the guilt when you cannot afford the classes....
