Anyone told at 20 weeks they were having a girl but had a boy?

Just that really. Had my scan recently and wa completely shocked that we're apparently having a girl - hardly any of those in DH's family! Not really bothered as baby looks lovely and healthy, but just wondered if many people had been given the wrong info even though they were shown the three girl lines on the scan.

No one I know personally but when dsis had dn the women in the bed opposit had been told a girl but had a boy

I was. I felt I was having a girl until I saw the babies massive hands and feet! I was then surprised when thesonographer said it was a girl. At a later scan I asked for conformation and was.told it was a boy, I could clearly see he was a boy myself at that point.

The woman in the bed next to me when I had dd, nearly five years ago now, had a boy when her 20 week scan showed she was having a girl.

That is the only time I have seen it to be wrong, I think almost all of the time they are correct. But perhaps don't go and buy everything pink like the lady next to me had done!

All the people I know (including me) who have been told the sex at the 20 weeks scan had it right.

Hell no, I'm not a pink person and DS's clothes are mainly red/orange/green so they'll do nicely for a DD - just mentally preparing myself for a girl in the house when I never thought I'd have one!

My SIL and BIL were told girl but had a boy. Luckily they found out at another scan so had chance to change clothes etc.

However they had a combined dating / anomoly scan at 16 weeks so it may have been a bit early.

I know two people told girl and it was a boy, but these were more than 7 years ago and certainly the scanner at our local hospital has improved immensely since then.

I agree I think scanning is a lot better now. My DB was told it was a boy but they actually had a girl but this was 14 years ago. At my scan last year you could quite clearly see DS bits so there was no doubt :)

I've heard of it happening to a couple of people but always that way round (told girl but actually a boy). We've been told girl and I was convinced I was having a boy. Doesn't worry me either way as most of the stuff we have is unisex so we can use it again hopefully.

A friend if mine was told a girl from her 12 week scan. She'd had lots of girls things bought for out and when it popped out, it was a teeny tiny boy! GrinSmile

Friends of mine were told it was a boy at 20 weeks, picked the name, painted the nursery blue, bought half of Mothercare in blue and had a girl.

Yes, and I was told it was 99.9% a girl at 20 week scan.

My first we was told a girl but out popped a boy! Gave us a good laugh, we had just brought neutral colours "just in case". With the other 2dc we found out but always kept things neutral.

now dc4 is apparently a boy. his bits were very obvious! I'm quite tempted to start get a few bits...

I've been told girl all three times at the 20 week scan. DDs 1&2 were most definitely true........ the proof will be in the pudding with this one too.

I gather it's much harder to sex girls tho. From friends of mine who've had 20 week "boy" scans- there's no mistaking a penis if you get a clear look.

I think it must be quite difficult to get a "wrong" scan - both of mine (one boy and one girl) have been right. With ds there was absolutely no mistaking he was a boy, even if we didn't want to know the sex we could have helped it - we looked at the screen and a massive penis floated past! The scan woman glanced at us and said "you know what that means.. I don't have to tell you". Aw :)

My brother was apparently a girl.. but this was 30 years ago! And the doctor said "I see an absence of a penis" so none of the three lines stuff that is used these days.

I do know of a lady on a forum elsewhere in recent years who had loads of scans from 20 weeks onwards as she was high risk, and they often checked the sex for her. Painted the nursery pink..

Well, I wouldn't be telling this story if her baby was a girl!

It's rare though. They're usually right, especially if they say they're certain and have seen three lines for a girl.

Yes, a friend of mine had it happen. This is about four years ago, so not old technology. She was high risk and had had a number of scans (I wonder if it is the same person Crispy)

My mum was told she was having a boy with me, she was utterly shocked as she had been convinced she was expecting a girl for some reason, then just before delivery she told my dad "well better have a girl's name just in case"... and sure enough I was a girl :)
