I'm nervous. MW is coming to my home to do it, and i'm worried about weather it'll hurt, but even more nervous about weather it'll work!

Who's had a sweep a week before due date, and did it work? I've got another booked in for Thursday if this one doesn't work. If neither work i'm being induced on my due date next week.

I want it to work ... but i'm scared! Confused Any words of wisdom?

Yes I had a sweep when I was overdue. It did hurt a bit but it was soon over. Nobody can say if it will work or not but it's worth a try.

Honestly it's not too bad and over in seconds plus I found midwives to be very gentle, just tell her you're feeling a bit anxious and try to relax as much as possible.

Now my huge handed male consultant... that was a whole different ball game Shock

fluffyraggies · 13/01/2014 09:47

Shock @ huge hands!

My MW's hands are average i suppose Grin

saggy - do you think it sent you into labor?

I've heard it works for 1 in 3 women. I know it depends on your cervix at the time, how many kids you've already had, how close to due date etc. This is my 4th baby - but my youngest is 15, so long time ago. Never been swept or induced before.

She has just texted to say she'll be here 'late morning'.

Nope. Nothing was tempting that little blighter out! Grin
Hes 17 now and will still not keen on leaving the house! If there had been an X Box in my uterus he would still be in there! Grin

fluffyraggies · 13/01/2014 11:35

lol. I have a sneaky feeling the sweeps wont work and i'll be rocking up to the hospital next Tue for induction. Ugh.

MW's still not here. I can't bare the suspense! This is late morning ...

I've had 2 (one at 40 weeks and the other at 41 weeks) and still no sign of baby, so I'm booked in for an induction tomorrow. The sweep itself wasn't that bad - I think the anticipation is worse!! Good luck and fingers crossed it works for you.

X
PS sweeps have been successful for 2 of my friends - they both went into labour within 24 hours of second sweep.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 13/01/2014 13:25

Has she been yet OP?

fluffyraggies · 13/01/2014 13:46

Thank you book

Yes she's been saggy! She arrived at 12.30. The sweep was no where near as bad as i've been anticipating. A small twinge of pain at one point, but 99% pully, tuggy, pushing feelings. Like a rough smear test Grin

The upshot? My cervix is 'lovely and central, already soft, low and open 1cm'. She gave me a 'good sweep'.

However - baby's head is down, but no longer engaged (it was 4/5 engaged last Thursday) and has 'popped back up'. Great. SO i have to have a presentation scan tomorrow morn., to make sure she isn't creeping into breech.

If it is your 4th, they often pop in and out. Try not to worry too much about that. Smile

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 13/01/2014 13:57

Yay! I second the popping in and out thing.
Tey walking sideways up stairs a few times, and if you have one, do lots of circling on a gym ball. Both can help bring the head down.
Fingers crossed for you. x

fluffyraggies · 13/01/2014 18:10

Thank you penguin :)

And walking sideways up stairs you say saggy? OK Grin I'll give it a go next time i need to go up for a wee!

Just to update - scan went well, head is still down. Judging by the pains i had while walking round Tesco earlier i recon she's engaging again!

More good news is the sonographer has guestimated a birth weight of 7lb 5. A nice weight.

Watching the 'birth weight' thread with interest Grin
