I've had whooping cough, which has left me with a cracked rib.

The Dr prescribed me codeine/paracetamol to help with the pain.

It's doing nothing though,I'm on 8 a day and I'm in agony. The pain is so unbearable. I can't sleep, can't drive, can't lie down. It hurts constantly. However a cough etc leaves me crying out in pain.

Has anyone taken anything stronger?

I don't want to waste their time going back if there's nothing they can give

Codeine is likely to be the strongest thing they can safely give you unfortunately - it's all about balancing the risks to the baby with the risks to you of not taking anything. How far along are you? In the second trimester you may find a dr who will prescribe something stronger, but first and third you're unlikely to get much else. Hope it starts to feel better soon.

I'm 21 weeks. In my first pregnancy, I wouldn't even touch a paracetamol. But I'm in agony.

I doubted there would be anything to be honest.

Thanks hun x

Codeine could be given at a larger dose if necessary. Tramadol can also be used if necessary. Go back and have a good moan.

Lol he's likely to get a crying mess rather than a moan! I'm at the consultant tomorrow too, so may ask them

Hi op, i feel your pain. When i was 23weeks with dc1 i slipped on a polished hard floor and cracked a rib and ive not known pain like it. Every breath hurts doesnt it, i had to sit/sleep in a reclining sun lounger so i could breath and get up easier.
It took several weeks to feel better and i ended up being sent to hospital by nhs direct 2werks after the fall and they gave me 30/500 cocodomol which just about took the edge of it (initially a&e gave me nothing when i went immediately after i fell).
Thats the strongest they were prepared to prescribe so i had to grit my teeth and heal over time. If you are on the 8/500 dose maybe you could as for the higher ones but apart from that all i can suggest is alot of rest as the more i tried to do the longer it took to heal and feel better.
On the positive at least its happened now so that you have time to heal before bump gets bigger and you have to give birth.
