How much notice did you have for your 12 week scan?

Hi all,

I know different areas have varied set ups regarding dating scans etc, but wondered if anyone can help.

I saw my midwife at 8 weeks for my booking appointment, I am now 10 weeks. This is my second child but I can't remember when my letter came through last time. My scan was at 13 weeks though.

I just wondered how much notice you usually get...hoping my date will come through this week as I really want to book the day off work as I've not told work yet and don't intend to until after the scan, so don't want to raise suspicions having time off work. But we have a one person only on holiday rule and generally have to give two weeks notice for days off.

Thanks Smile

I had four days notice. Letter came on Sat for a Weds appt. Was 12+5 on the day of the scan.

Over anxious I would ring the hospital I think they'd have put scan on the system even if they haven't actually sent letter out yet Smile

I'm 12 weeks on Tuesday and haven't heard a thing!!

OveranxiousUnderated · 05/01/2014 09:58

Hmm not holding out much hope for getting reasonable notice then haha. Confused

They never even gave me one because they screwed up (luckily I already had a private one organised)

So definitely get on their backs. I was reassured several times that I was not "lost in the system" but actually I was!

I went for my 8 week appointment and had my date for my dating scan the week later so had about 4 weeks notice. My dating scan is actually at 13 weeks. I was surprised at how quickly it came through to be honest. I'd call them if you are anxious and you obviously need enough time to give ample notice at work.

MissSlackPants84 · 05/01/2014 14:54

We were given our scan appointment while we were at our booking appointment so we had plenty of notice. I can't speak highly enough of the service we've received from all health care professionals so far Smile

jammiecat · 05/01/2014 15:27

My hospital had a backlog so scan was at 13+5 with about 3 or 4 days notice but it will depend where you are.

Ullapull · 05/01/2014 15:31

Call and check, the letter might have been lost in the post? I had quite a few weeks notice.

Writerwannabe83 · 05/01/2014 16:12

My date was given to me by my Midwife at my booking in appointment, I was just over 6 weeks pregnant. She was ringing the hospital to make the appointment but they told me my GP had rang earlier in the week and already booked me a slot. So very good service but the 6 week wait was long... Smile Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Mine was supposed to be on Saturday 28th dec last year and heard nothing the week before so I called clinic on the Friday and got told it was on 31st Dec. got the letter through that Saturday. If you're concerned just give your clinic a call, they'll be really helpful :)

stargirl1701 · 05/01/2014 22:06

I waited and waited and waited some more. I finally phoned the hospital at 11 weeks and they didn't have any record of me. The midwife hadn't sent the paperwork! They found me a slot at 13 weeks.

Phone the hospital and check, OP.

Froblawd · 05/01/2014 22:08

I had about 3 weeks I think but I remember I rang the hospital and they moved the appointment for me easily so you could always do that.

dizhin79 · 05/01/2014 22:34

definitely call and check, mine was booked incorrectly and ended up being at 14+5 so couldn't do nuchal fold tests

Jolay100 · 05/01/2014 22:51

My go gave me a number to call where I made my booking appointment and dating scan appointments there and then. When I went to these appointments they made the next appointments based on the dates that suit me around the right time. I was v impressed. I' d call if you need to know as it's likely to be on the computer even if the letter hasn't been sent yet.

firstbaby01 · 05/01/2014 23:39

I had a phone call on a Friday afternoon asking me if i could go in first thing the following Tuesday. this was about a week and a half after my booking appt.

thebestnameshavegone · 06/01/2014 10:30

i got my letter this morning and my scan is a week on Wednesday, so I've had a week and 2 days notice. i'll be 12+1 at the scan.
I had my booking in appointment just before 8 weeks and the midwife told me then that I would likely have about a week's notice of my scan, so seems she was right.

OveranxiousUnderated · 06/01/2014 10:45

Thanks everyone, think I will give it a few days and see if a letter arrives if not I might ring up and see if I can find out.

Do I ring the diagnostics unit at the hospital where they do the ultrasounds?
