Belly cast using plaster of Paris powder - how?

Hey peeps,

I'm 38 weeks & wanted to do a belly cast, I couldn't find any of the bandages that you soak, so I'm trying the next best thing - plaster of Paris powder :)

I have a ton of Vaseline so the plaster doesn't stick to my skin, I have a load of bandages - but how do I get all of this into creating a cast?

Does any body know or has anyone done this before?

Any help appreciated :-) xx

Probably easier to just buy a kit from argos/amazon?

ChancetoDance · 23/12/2013 16:38

I've never heard of that! Won't it be rather erm .....large? What are you going to do with it?

Bubblegoose · 23/12/2013 16:47

."What are you going to do with it?"

Turn it upside down and fill it with gravy this time of year, I expect.

I had planned on getting a kit but have been told I'm 1/2cm dilated & so could come any time really, knowing my luck the kit will arrive after the baby is born lol!

Just thought it'd be a nice keep sake - something different :) x

Yes you can easily use what you have!

Make sure your bandages are cut quite small so they are easy to handle.

First smother your belly in vaseline - and anywhere that might get splashed.

Then put a small amount of cool - not cold - water in a bowl and add the plaster to it gradually until it forms an island on top. Then mix gently with your hands so no lumps are left.

Dip the bandages into the plaster mix and work quite quickly to cover your belly- aim for 2 layers. Any more and it won't set properly. Wait til it goes warm then cools again - you'll know the chemical reaction has taken place.

It's easier if someone helps you! Good luck

Er forgot to say then you can remove it!
