So what's this SPD thing then?

Feeling fed up. I was feeling quite healthy when I went into my midwife's appointment this morning, apart from the usual twinges expected at 28 weeks.

Apparently though, the pain in the top of my legs near the groin is SPD. I've never heard of it before, and I'm sure I got this last pregnancy and didn't really think anything of it. Anyway, I've been told some ways to keep it from getting worse and I may be offered physio at a later date. Does anyone know what it is so I can at least start to do some research into it - is it anything to worry about?

Also, my itchy skin may be an indicator of a liver problem, so I'm having a test for that...

Don't feel quite as healthy now

I have been suffering from increasing pain in my groin, the tops of my legs and occasionally my buttocks. It seems to be getting gradually worse and I wondered if it might be SPD. However, I am only 16 weeks pg and this is my first pg. Is it "too early" for SPD? I'm seeing my mw on Thursday for my 16 week check and will mention it then but I'd appreciate any advice. Can I stop it getting worse? I really struggle now when I get out of a chair if I've been sitting down for a long time (particularly at work) and turning over in bed can be painful.

sounds like it to me, piglit. try this organization for more info. support belts and osteopathy are also recommended. if you are in london, the british school of osteopathy has an expectant mothers' clinic.

i should be getting a recommendation for a support belt this week and can pass it on to you. also i have an osteopathy appt and will let you know how that goes.

Thanks bossykate and Harman. Before I was pg I used to see an osteo on a regular basis so I'd be happy to go back to one who has the relevant experience.

BK, piglit, email me if you want the article I wrote - might be vaguely useful. Hugs.

My first midwife told me it was backache. The second said it was SPD but they didn't do anything about it until 34 weeks (I've had pain since 15 weeks). The registrar at the hospital said it was backache too as I don't have pain in the front of my pelvis only the back. I'm really confused now. Most of the pain is in my tail bone radiating out towards my hips, it's worse at night if I have been at work during the day. Getting up from sitting/lying and turning in bed are the nost painful.
