Has anyone had fanny cam before? If so, what is involved and does it hurt? Will be 5+6 tomorrow and presume this is what I'll have.

I had one a few weeks ago and it was absolutely fine, not painful in the slightest and when you have a scan the room is darkened so i didn't feel uncomfortable. My Dh was with me and we got such a clear picture and it was far less. painful than the abdomen scan which left me feeling very tender. We also had a lovely sonographer who was very reassuring and put me totally at ease which really helped x

Thank you Charlie, that has helped me a lot and put me at ease. The only thing concerning me now is the tingling feeling I have in my left groin area which I keep worrying is ectopic. I guess I will find out tomorrow!

Don't worry, I had to have one every two weeks until I was 18 weeks due to genetic complications.
They don't hurt, just wear jeans with a dress/long top over the top so you don't feel too exposed.
The actual scan won't hurt- ask them to turn the monitor so you can see, it will help distract you and hopefully you'll get a good result tomorrow.
Good luck.

tinkerbell666 · 22/12/2013 21:10

I've had loads, never hurt, and after 5 children my dignity left a long time ago when it comes to having babies :/

VJONES1985 · 22/12/2013 21:29

Hoping - I'm seeing my diabetes midwife afterwards!

iv had one before in my first pregnancy (also T1D); was fine other than the lame joke my husband cracked about the condom being a bit pointless seeing as im already knocked up; needless to say second time around i tend to leave him at home.

Feelingfatty · 22/12/2013 21:37

I love kitty GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin love your husband!!! Ha ha

Ilovekittyelise · 22/12/2013 21:46

feeling fatty: yeh kind of funny and cringe. reminds me he can actually be good value (obviously at 34 wks pregnant in run up to xmas in constant flurry of madness main emotion is irritation towards all men...)

Feelingfatty · 22/12/2013 21:53

I would have cringed but hilarious to read! Bless him! He sounds like he felt awkward and tried to crack a joke...very funny GrinGrinGrin

VJONES1985 · 22/12/2013 22:02

Yes then definitely take a book I havent spoken to a diabetic yet that has had a quick antenatal appointment.

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 22/12/2013 22:41

I had an internal scan a few months ago and it wasn't painful and awkward at all.

Tbh, I found the fact that I had to take my clothes off behind a screen and wrap a piece of fabric around my waist and pretend I wasn't going to be on that bed with my legs up for everyone on display the strangest thing, I would've been quite happy to get my trousers off and get it over with - they see it in the end, anyway.

Plateofcrumbs · 22/12/2013 23:09

I had one the other day and it was absolutely fine - a little uncomfortable when they were wiggling around looking for my ovaries (one was very elusive!) but much less unpleasant than a smear, but not really painful or stressful.

MrsRV · 23/12/2013 20:23

hope it went ok OP. hubbys eyes nearly popped out if his head the first time. I was so embarrassed having it in front if him! light sabre wearing a condom is the only way I can describe it. but doesnt hurt! xx

VJONES1985 · 23/12/2013 20:32

It was fine, I wasn't embarrassed about it but it was nice having dh there. The midwife said all looks good and healthy and dated me at 5+4. No heartbeat yet though so I'm going back for another one in two weeks.
