Sex to bring on labour

I'm 40 weeks today and for the past week or so we have pretty much been having sex every other day to try and get things moving! Poor DP has had more sex in the space of a week than the full 9 months I've been pg!

Does anyone have any experience that sex actually does start things moving? Just had another sesh as I'm desperate to get things going! Would love for baby to arrive before Xmas. Or is it all just a myth ?!

Nope the prostaglandins in the sperm should stimulate your cervix providing it can get in there. Are you dilated at all?

AnyFuckerWillDo · 19/12/2013 22:30

And congrats soooo exciting :)

Yep worked for me for my third. It was a right palava doing itShock but soon after i started getting contractions. Started at 3 in the morning on fri and was contracting all day snd had baby at 1 in the morning on sat! Just go for it because when your body is ready it will help!

I don't know as I haven't had any internals. I don't think it's standard here in South Wales? Had midwife tues when I was 39+5 and she said I wouldn't be considered for a sweep til 41 weeks so booked in for the 27th....
So maybe I should carry on bonking to my hearts (or should I say DP's) consent! Ha.

Definitely worked for me too! Wink

Applepiesky · 19/12/2013 22:35

Thanks fucker ...

And glad to hear it worked for you mum ... Just hope it works for us! Have found a position that is working for us which is quite deep and seems to be plenty of stimulation too so maybe that would help loosen up my cervix??

Worked for me with ds1 Smile

The midwife made me laugh when I went for a check up at 39 weeks. She told us to go home and "have a good bonk" Grin

I was 19 at the time and found this highly amusing Grin

Aquariusgirl86 · 19/12/2013 23:05

Didn't work for me

Applepiesky · 19/12/2013 23:08

Haha coffee!! Glad it worked for you too ...

aquarius did you try a lot?

The thing is, for those saying "it worked for me" how do you know it wasn't just a coincidence? Just because you had sex and then went into labour does not mean the two are in any way connected.

Save yourself the bother I say.

(I tried everything with dd1 and still ended up being induced)

Flisspaps · 20/12/2013 01:27

Ditto twofalls

NICE guidelines say sex shouldn't be recommended as a method of trying to start labour as there's sod all evidence that it works.

Babies come when they're ready. Put your feet up and enjoy the peace Grin

LadyFlumpalot · 20/12/2013 02:17

Worked for me. Orgasm started, turned into first contraction and DD arrived 4 hours later!

Applepiesky · 20/12/2013 09:42

Interesting thoughts - thanks ladies!!

Good point-it could have just been coincidence-it was my due date after all! I always thought it did the trick because I had the 'show' immediately after and mild contractions the rest of the day. DD was born the next day.
