Does anyone have any decent home remedies for thrush ? Am suffering badly after antibiotics a few months ago. Took fluconizole then. Got pg about 6 wks later so do not want to take it again due to risks to baby.
Sorry if tmi but i've never had it this bad. It is so sore down below. It burns :-(
Have been applying yogurt twice a day which helps and also washing in water with bicarb of soda which helps for a few hours but neither are getting rid of it.
It has totally destroyed our sex life which is upsetting as a newbie because i assumedthat sex would become a thing of the past once we become parents...but it already has and i'm only 11 weeks!
Any advice appreciated.
Also, I'm aware that u can apply cream such as caneston but i can't because it is too sore...those creams make it feel on fire...ouch !

Tea tree essential oil in the bath? Back to the GP?

Yumsnet · 15/12/2013 21:50

Whenever I get it I try to cut out as much sugar from my diet as poss, but agree I think you should go back to the doc...

Canestan and steam ironing and washing your pants on 90 degrees, this helps kill the candidia

Swore by it as when pregnant or on the pill I get almost constant thrush

A midwife passed on this gem, kept me sane

You can use the Canestan pessaries while pregnant - just insert them yourself rather than using the applicator.

Thanks all. Ironing pants...that's a new one so I'll give it a try! Am a bit reluctant to use any meds as had a mc earlier this year. So will plough on for now. Thanks again for the advice x

Make sure you're getting probiotics in your diet too!

BlackberryandNettle · 16/12/2013 21:16

Hiya, I had the worst thrush ever in the first trimester. I used Canestan and drank Yakult probiotic drinks. I was worried about using the Canestan pessary but it was fine, I was worried I'd developed bacterial vaginosis too so felt the imbalance/ possible infection was equally risky to the pregnancy.

DontLetTheMugglesGetYouDown · 16/12/2013 21:22

I'm also plagued by it, had it tons when pg with DS and it's back to haunt me with this one.

Not tried washing my pants at that temp and steaming them, will give that a try.
Cutting out sweets helps a lot but it's just so hard!

TheXxed · 16/12/2013 21:26

I feel your pain I had thrush through out my pregnancy, I found not wearing any underwear at home helped.

And taking baths with tea tree oil.

prettywhiteguitar · 16/12/2013 21:27

I found the canestan got rid of it but ironing my pants stopped it reoccurring

Felt stupid doing it and it didn't help dp laughing at me !

Monkeybrain10 · 16/12/2013 21:30

Pants meet iron! I feel some laughs at my expense about to occur :-D thanks all!

I'd suggest going back to the Dr to check its not BV as that can be risky. & I know you're reluctant to take meds, but 3 pessaries on 3 consecutive days was the only thing that knocked it in the head for me. I had to do this numerous times this pregnancy.

Apparently 1 treatment is often not enough when you're pregnant. Just don't use the applicator to be on the safe side. I had previously had 2 m/c so I do know how you feel though.

As an aside, & purely anecdotally, everyone I know that's been plagued by thrush in pregnancy has had a girl-me included! Didn't get it with my ds.

Anyway, hope you get rid if it one way or another.

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 17/12/2013 03:08

I use Canesten covered tampons for a few days.

Naomilouise1992 · 17/12/2013 03:24

Apparently natural yogurt on a tampon helps not too sure if not tried it but my mil swears by it xxx
