Hi girls,

I wonder if any of you can shed some light on a little niggle I have please...
I turned 36 weeks on Monday where my midwife measured me as 33cm. Slightly on small side but she said it was fine. After a couple of days of real discomfort, lots of Braxton hicks etc I measured myself on Thursday, so 36+3, and I was 38cm. I have just measured again and I'm almost 39cm! Considering I only grew 1cm in 2 weeks prior to Monday this seems crazy!

Is this rapid growth normal?
Could it be responsible for a suddenly very active baby, with lots of pressure in pelvis?

Midwife said I was 3/5 engaged on Monday... (Not sure if this info would make any difference!)

Anyone who could either re assure me or alert me to this being normal/abnormal would be great please!

Oh and this is 2nd baby!

Thanks girls xxx

There's a reason that they give you your own tape measure and recommend that only one person do the measuring - of more than one person measures, you get disparity of results.

Are you a midwife? If not, don't measure yourself - you don't know where to/from to measure accurately and my consultant told me it was really a very inaccurate science and not to worry about measuring small. Babies change position all the time, so depending on what way the baby is lying, you will measure differently each time.

Step away from the tape measure and try not to worry!

Thanks ladies!

Much appreciated. - no I'm not a midwife, I am a mere mortal, that is all.

I was in hospital two weeks ago and in one day I measured 5cm different! And not just getting bigger, something like 32, 29, 34. I think it's more a guide!!

Hospital.measured me 29cm on Sunday, by wed the midwife measured 34cm... I.was actually 33 weeks. Got sent for growth scan as according to chart baby too big, only to find on scan baby slightly small!
Consultant not concerned whatsoever. That's the trouble with too much measuring, scanning etc gets people.all excited about nothing!
It was nice to see baby again on scan though so no complaints from me Grin
