very very faint line on pregnancy test

Just done a pregnancy test and there is a really really faint positive line on the test - can only really see it if I hold up to the light. I think I'm about 7 days dpo. How long does it take for a strong positive to show up?

Desperately hoping to get pregnant...mum has cancer and not long left so would be so good to have some good news for us and for her.
Think i am so hopeful I'm clutching at straws and so worried I'll get my period.

A strong positive would be from the day AF is due or afterwards. I used a frer and got a faint line at 11 dpo and a very dark one at 13 dpo, when AF would have been due.

Mine took until around 20dpo! The best piece of advice I can give you - and I know it's hard - but step away from the sticks for a few days. I tested early too, and had what felt like a long and agonising wait to see if it turned out to be a sticky bean, and not a chem pregnancy (it was a sticky bean!) fingers crossed for you!!!

Sorry, that last bit was wrong. AF due 13 dpo but my dark line was 14 dpo. I tested three times - 11, 12 and 14 dpo.

Your most likely pregnant if there is line even if it is faint. I've done pregnancy tests in the past hoping to be pregnant and convinced my self there was a faint line when there wasn't.
My advise would be to use a first response pregnancy test. You can test form 5 days before your missed period, as I have always done, and it gives you a definite line. Also you can try a clear blue digital it stay PREGNANT or NOT PREGNANT. Good luck and please let us know how you get on

Thank you all. Never heard of a chemical pregnancy buthjust looked it up. Will try and put everything out of my mind for a couple of days and test again. It's just so hard!

I got a very faint line on OV+9 on an internet cheapy. Did the same test 4 times over the next 48 hours and kept getting the same result. Yesterday went and bought proper CB tests and got a clear positive within a minute (OV+10). Today the digital test re reconfirmed it. So yes, those faint lines can mean something!

I've been through this exact same thing this week, I tested yesterday and had a faint line and again this morning (more obvious, but definitely still faint!). My period is a week late so the hubby and I are taking the approach that it's a positive but accept that it might be a false alarm! Will test again in a few days and see what happens...

Ok so I have no will power! Tested again this morning and got the same faint line - slightly darker this time. Trying not to get too excited! but even if it does end in a CP its the furthest we've got so far.

A line is a line is a line. Internet cheapies are no more unreliable than a CB ££ test. The difference is the price and the packaging. You also find that the cheaper tests are often more sensitive than the more expensive ones. You don't need to pick up another 'proper' test later. They all measure the same thing and that's the human pregnancy hormone. If there's a line, it's finding that hormone. With v early testing you would expect v faint lines in a successful cycle but actually the faintness of lines is often down to a lot of factors and is nothing to do with how viable the pregnancy is.

As other people have said, the real risk with picking up a pregnancy this early is that it can be a chemical pregnancy. We didn't know how common they were until early testing became so accurate.

I'm so sorry about your Mum. We took the decision to ttc after my Mum was diagnosed with cancer and DS was conceived immediately after months and months of losses and struggling to conceive our first child. I was so desperate to conceive so that my Mum had some good news. She had surgery on the day I did a pregnancy test (11dpo) and it was positive. That pregnancy test turned into DS who is 2 now and my Mum is in full remission. I really do hope that you have good pregnancy news for your Mum and that she is comfortable. What an emotional time for you. Good luck and best wishes for you all.

I have none either... hence testing two days in a row!! it's so easy to focus on it, but hey, if you can't have some hope now when can you.. In 2 days I went from the "if it happens, it will happen, we'll just let nature takes its course.." to comparing the darkness on pee sticks. A big part of me still doesn't believe it can be true but that's where the hope comes in!

I got a very clear positive on 10dpo on a superdrug test. I also tested using an Internet cheapie that was meant to be more positive but the line was actually fainter than on the 'less sensitive' superdrug test.

I've just been to the GP for antibiotics for an UTI and she confirmed that I am pregnant and has referred me to the midwife. Very exciting day today!

Think I'm going to buy another test today and test again. Been having really weird vivid dreams and woke up in the night feeling really sick. Taking that as a good sign.

Will let you know what the next test says!! :-)

I didn't buy any expensive ones.. I had a convincing result on the tesco own brand test I tried yesterday. It is sounding positive for you too starfish! I've only had a little nausea so far, but the vivid dreams are unreal! Plus feeling the need to walk to the doctors wearing just a t shirt and a pair of jeans...

Bought some tests from boots and will test in the morning. Still very early days as must only be 8 or dpo!

Showy - thanks for your message. So glad to hear your mum is in full remission. It is such an emotional time, do much going on and this would be positive thing.

Still testing positive and line is getting darker. Does anybody know when most chemical pregnancies occur? Trying to not get too excited just in case....

My GP said any time up to around a week after your period is due, so it's just like a late period that you would never have known was a pregnancy.

I was exactly the same as you, I think I tested around the same amount of dpo, and I'm four months pregnant now. I was just cautiously optimistic until around 15/16 dpo when I just thought, "no, this is it". Put it this way - by Xmas next week, you'll probably be on cloud nine.

A line is a line in my experience Smile. Got a very faint line at Day 24 of my 26/27 day cycle. The twins are doing very well Wink.

Just had some bleeding:-( have heard it's quite common in early pregnant but trying to prepare myself for the fact it might be a chem preg. Did anyone else have any spotting?
