Hello

Have stupidly managed to fall up a kerb tonight...street light not working and I guess I just wasnt paying enough attention to lift my feet up properly, managed to bang up my knees and elbows but also caught my bump, small scrape!

Baby has been moving fine since (he's been very active think its shock) but I keep on getting really painful tightening, have I just caused some braxton hicks to set off or do I need to get checked out?

Have no hubby tonight as he's working away and 2 year old in bed so I'm torn as to what to do!

Any advice??

Poor you, what a shock. I went down some stairs on holiday at 20 weeks, landed on my knees and broke a toe. I called my midwife who suggested that I went to the local A&E and they checked the baby's heartbeat (which was fine), and taped me up. The baby went crazy after the fall though, and I had Braxton Hicks all night. So maybe call your midwife/labour ward and see what they say?

It's best to get checked, just pop to a and e and they will refer you to maternity unless you call the maternity day unit / advise line. They will prob pop you on a monitor for a hr or so to trace the baby. It will put your mind at rest. I'm not a doctor but through my past experience of something similar that's what the did to me.
All being well you could put your toddler in a push chair hand hope they stay asleep. Good luck I'm sure all will be well x

I would go and get checked just to be sure. I know it will be awkward with the little one in bed, but can you get a neighbour to sit with them while you're out, save waking them?

Feel like such an idiot!! My left knee is agony took most of fall I think!
I think they are just the braxton hicks kicking up from the shock! have just phoned hubby again (he's 2 hours drive away) and he's on his way home to see me bless him
I may phone hosp just to see what they say rather be safe than sorry

Meh, I've had loads of falls when pg, right up to 39 weeks. Off bikes, down stairs, off kerbs. I only felt stupid rather than hurt & baby always fine.

How many weeks? Coz I do think one of my tumbles (very very gentle slow-motion fall off bike to bump on muddy ground) may have been enough to nudge labour. I agree about call a MW to talk it thru if you feel unsure.

Are u rhesus negative??? If so it's even more of a reason to get checked out xx

Rosebug258 · 12/12/2013 19:48

I'm 34 weeks, have spoken to the maternity unit and they would like to see me just to be on the safe side midwife I spoke to was lovely, and very reassuring assured me I wasn't wasting their time, and baby is very well protected so probably nothing, in tears now silly hormones!

Off to ask next door to watch sleeping dd for me and see if they can take me in (fingers crossed they will)

Thank you all x

Hope you are ok this morning rosebug I think it is a sensible precaution to get checked.
I had a fall at c. 22 weeks which didn't appear to have any immediate consequences, but it may have contributed to DS' otherwise unexplained premature birth at 32 weeks. So I always think it is worth being checked in these situations!

I hope you are not too sore today Thanks

Hi TeaandHobnobs

Was given a really thorough check up by the midwives and all appears ok baby is fine thank god, been advised to watch out for any change in movements but he's happily kicking away today I'm glad I did go in think I was in a bit of shock! my poor knee is a bit swollen so have been trying to rest it today luckily hubby is home to help and look after me bless him. Feel a bit rubbish but I will be ok :)
