My aunt swears blind she used the shettles method and thus successfully conceived a girl after three boys.

I am frankly sceptical.

I conceived from sex me and DH had 3 days before ovulation and we are having a boy - so the opposite of Shettle's Theory Smile

I am also very sceptical about myths like this.... Smile

I suspect that as many as 50% of people who have tried will report success.

No. Each time I tried it I failed to conceive. Realised I wanted another child more than I wanted a girl. Went for sex at ovulation after a few months and got another boy!

The only TTC book I ever bought (The Impatient Woman's Guide to Getting Pregnant) had a chapter on sex determination. The only re able methods are through scientific means like those used in IVF. The Shettles method has been disproved by numerous studies, and one well controlled study from New Zealand actually found that the opposite is true, as of the couple who only had sex on e day of ovulation ended up with 90% female babies and of the couples who had sex only 2-3 days before ovulation only 20% were female!

ooh wispa I'm loving your stats. I conceived on ovulation day - so I'll be keeping my fingers crossed Grin

We had sex on O day last time...and got a girl. But we also had sex on O-1, O-2, O-3...so who can say which it was. There was certainly plenty up there! DS wasn't planned and I think they were super long lasting sperm. To be honest I think it's all a bit bollocks. Always going to be 50/50.

This one is a O-3 baby, will tell you in 29 weeks time!
