Hello I have mild high blood pressure (anywhere from 130 to 150) and 60-80 bottom number.

I have been told I am having 2 weekly scans and have been given aspirin 75mg to take daily, I am 27 weeks pregnant

I think they are giving it to me as a 'just in case' anything develops however I am still unsure of taking it.. Anyone else started it this late on any problems? X

I also have an elevated uterine artery whatever that is ( the consultant didn't even really know!!!) I think it's their uncertainty that is making me question the aspirin

Thanks x

I've been taking Clexane ad low dose aspirin since the beginning without any problems (now 21 weeks). It does tend to be prescribed under the heading 'can't do any harm, might do some good'. Not sure about the elevated uterine artery - if it means increased resistance, then the aspirin should help with that too by rendering the blood more fluid xx

With my second two I was put on aspirin for the entire pregnancy as I had placental problems. I have three healthy kids now.

I was put on aspirin 75mg daily at 20 weeks with my second.
Blood pressure went really high with my first, so the aspirin was pre-emptive.
I had less problems with my blood pressure second time around, and no ill effects from the aspirin. Had to stop it around 36 weeks due to a planned c-section.
My baby is 20 weeks old now.
Hope all goes well for you.

I've been told to start on 12weeks.

I have a high bmi - and so it is preventative - just not sure exactly what they are trying to prevent other than lots of bad things that might happen to fat people! Grin

Aspirin is prescribed to try to reduce risk of clots in your placenta or cord to prevent a miscarriage or stillbirth as clots are a serious risk in many cases.

I've been taking the aspirin from the very start. Will need to stop in two days when I reach 36 weeks. Mine is prescribed due to a clotting disorder. Unlike you I have very low blood pressure - around 80/55 is quite normal for me. Haven't found taking aspirin bad at all.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy OP.

I was in my first pregnancy because of my BMI. However, my blood pressure had been low all the way through pregnancy up until that point so I decided against taking it (mainly because my family history of aspirin problems) and I was fine.

If your blood pressure is high I would definitely be following advice and taking it

I was on 75mg asprin from 4 weeks with my DD due to a history of multiple miscarriages. I also had very low blood pressure throughout pregnancy. it was on recommendation from my consultant, similar reason to Lizziekal. The only thing I noticed was when I cut my leg shaving!!
