Right, my hair is naturally very dark and from an early age I've had lots of grey streaks. Since the age of 18, I've managed to cover these with my good old friend, Mr L'Oreal...'caus I'm obviously 'worth it'...Now I'm 18 weeks and haven't coloured my hair since July, as a result, my head looks like a skunk's backside. I've spoken to my hairdresser who has suggested foils, but before I make an appointment, I want to know if colouring my hair in a salon using foils will put my little one at any risk WHATSOEVER... Yes I want to look as gorgeous as possible, but not at my baby's expense...Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you :-)

Awaiting your replies as I am in the same boat!

22 weeks and a few inches of horrible greying regrowth (I am only 33!).

Can't afford hairdressers though so will need to do it at home.

tgamble13 · 28/11/2013 14:19

ive had my hair foiled twice during this pregnancy. they only dont reccommend it during first trimester.

LucyB1 · 28/11/2013 14:29

Hairdressers use dye all the time and still manage to have healthy babies. its all nonsense i say!

cathpip · 28/11/2013 14:30

I am a"nice and easy" girl, I am on my third pregnancy and I have dyed my hair every 6/8 weeks throughout each pregnancy, my children are fine :), my hairdresser did tell me that hair goes naturally darker in pregnancy so I may need to go a tone darker. Hope this helps!

ChicaMomma · 28/11/2013 14:30

Youre 18 weeks so you're completely fine. Foils are best as they dont infiltrate the bloodstream at all.

Naomilouise1992 · 28/11/2013 15:24

I went from her black to my original colour ginger when I was about 4 months.. I had it bleached a full head! And then a ginger dye put on! Love it! Xxx

mummybears1 · 28/11/2013 15:42

I was told its completley fine and used home dye kit after 12 weeks but I would avoid in the first 12 weeks just in case!

JoinTheDots · 28/11/2013 15:43

NHS say there is no known risk at your stage, but if you are feeling cautious, then go with foils. It wont get your roots mind!

HaveToWearHeels · 28/11/2013 16:03

No risk at all, I spoke to my hairdresser and she said if you are still unsure have foils as the colour does not touch the scalp.

RaRa1988 · 28/11/2013 16:09

Glad I've read this - I've been wondering too! 12 weeks and hoping to get it dyed before Christmas.

2Labradors · 28/11/2013 16:26

Before I knew I was pregnant I had my hair foiled, I go to my friend's house and we enjoyed a glass of wine too. Got my BFP a few days later.

I've had my hair foiled throughout, and I'm going again tomorrow morning which is my due date Grin

CrazyThursday · 29/11/2013 15:53

My hair is similar and I need to dye it every 4 weeks. I stretched it out to about 6 weeks at times in my pregnancy with DD and she's perfect (23m).

I'm 6 weeks now and planning on dying my hair tomorrow. I use majirel (same as in the salon).

CrazyThursday · 29/11/2013 15:58

Oh and from what I recall finding out with pg #1 was that its more about a)feeling icky from the fumes, b) your skin reacting differently to normal and c) your hair might not react/take as normal

Thisismyfirsttime · 29/11/2013 16:48

I bleach my hair so I was worried but as far as I know you just need to be more careful because your skin may be more sensitive, which was a worry for me because I have quite sensitive skin anyway and bleach does me no good at the best of times. Make sure you do a patch test and use a well ventilated room and it'll be fine.

MrsCharlieD · 29/11/2013 22:03

I've had a full hair colour at about 8 weeks. my hair dresser said it was fine and so far so good. definitely having another colour before Christmas x

Sleepthief · 30/11/2013 05:56

Been having my hair bleached and dyed all the colours of the rainbow throughout (now 34 weeks). Checked it with my hairdresser very early. As others have said, even hairdressers have babies Grin
