How many weeks before due date do they book an ELC roughly?

I am pg with DC3, I'm having an ELC after having an EMCS last time.

I'm due Saturday 25th Jan so when are they likely to book me in for the ELC?

They will aim for 39 weeks. However the exact day will depend on when the surgeon does elcs. Mine was a little under 39 weeks because my consultant did all hers on a Friday.

They used to be a bit more flexible around 39 weeks, but this year they've apparently introduced new guidelines and won't do it before 39 weeks at all unless there are good medical reasons. Well, that's what my consultant (who is in charge of the labour ward at our hospital) told me last week. 39 weeks for me falls on a Sunday so I have been told Monday. Am annoyed as I was hoping for the Friday as I don't fancy my chances of hitting 39 weeks from past history!

Mine was at 37 weeks, despite them initially saying 39 weeks. This was because my dates were very close to my stillborn daughter's birthday and I didn't want to be having another baby on the same date - or to be left until afterwards and then go into labour on that day. The consultant was fine with it, but with hindsight DD2 would have been better left until 38 or 39 weeks, which is what I will be aiming for this time.

My consultant told me that they will not section me till my 39th week.

omuwalamulungi · 18/11/2013 17:28

They were so busy I was meant to be booked in for 39 weeks but it fell on a Saturday so ended up being 39+5! Had my legs crossed for those five days I can tell you.

Hope it all goes well for you!

I can't believe we have this question so often on Mumsnet. Don't they tell you when they book you in? Isn't it like the first question you ask?

downdownupdown · 18/11/2013 17:53

I haven't been booked in for it yet. I won't be till the end of the month.

They won't give you a date until you have jumped through hoops proving your reasons for wanting a ELCS.

Not even my midwife will talk to me about a c section. I have been to see the consultant and the consultant midwife and still no one has told me.

Yes 39 weeks. I'm due 3rd next June and already been told that although it's not been actually booked in i've been told the consultant will do that at 16 weeks. In my 2nd pregnancy they didn't book it until I was about 35 weeks though!

downdownupdown · 18/11/2013 20:33

16 weeks Shock .

I'm 30 wks and still not booked in.

Don't worry, I'm 31 weeks and not booked in yet either. Mainly because I haven't decided yet. Consultant said I had until 34 weeks to make my mind up.

downdownupdown · 18/11/2013 20:51

I know what I want. Its just the amount of people I have see first that slows it down I think.

Which way are you swaying?

I'm having mine on Thursday at 38 weeks, but had to beg due to horrendous SPD!
