It'll be the placenta :)

Blood flow

If it's belly button height at 9 weeks it'll be nothing to do with the baby. Probably just normal digestion noises.

9 weeks is maybe a bit early to be using the doppler, wait a week then try, start from just where your pubic bone finishes, baby is no where near your belly button for weeks and weeks yet!

Yy I wouldn't think you could expect to reliably hear a heartbeat with a home doppler until maybe 13/14 weeks.

The whooshing is the blood flowing through cord & placenta ... I had to have mine monitored every other day with dd2...

usual guidelines with a Doppler is heartbeat found from approximately 16 weeks so don't worry as 9 weeks too early.. I bought one with my ds & found heartbeat easily from 14 weeks when I purchased mine. Grin

Not at belly button height at 9 weeks it's not!
