Has anyone else had this? It's driving me insane!!
I'm 32+1 and for the past week or so I feel like my skin is crawling. It's difficult to describe but it normally comes on mid afternoon when I'm watching tv on the sofa and it's like a mix between restless legs and just a general urge to itch!! I then get the urge that I HAVE to get in the bath to soothe it, which it usually does! It Usually affects my legs but also other parts of my body and then when I come to bed it happens again and I am constantly thrashing round in bed cos my legs, torso etc are itching until I fall asleep. What's annoying me the most is that I think it's actually all in my head?! Can anyone relate to this or shed any light?!

Hi apple. I think you should go see your midwife and get your liver function blood test taking.
It could be a condition called Choleostasis.

Its a condition during pregnancy which effects liver function. The severe itching is a classical sign.
If you cannot see midwife, go see your Gp

Thank you for replying although I really don't think it's choleostasis! It's not severe itching and it only happens at certain times of the day which is why I think it's all in my head! :-(

please check.
I had choleostasis, I was itchy and it was annoying, but it wasn't horrendous (as it is for some people)

Midwife did a test just to check and we were both surprised it came back positive.

I was just about to post something really similar, I'm itchy but not severely and usually only at night when I'm trying to sleep.

steppemum · 25/10/2013 23:29

the itching isn't all the time, for me most often in the evenings/in bed

DaleyBump · 25/10/2013 23:30

Well shit.

Applepiesky · 26/10/2013 05:24

It is shit. I will definitely mention it to my midwife. What's the treatment for it?

It could be restless legs syndrome, which is pretty common during the 3rd trimester, you've got that crawling sensation.

It wouldn't hurt to get your liver function checked just in case though. Definitely mention it to your midwife or GP.

steppemum · 26/10/2013 07:59

there is no treatment, you get close monitoring of liver levels (regular blood tests) and if your levels are high, then you are induced early (37-38 weeks) and not allowed to go to term.

But as amandine said, it could be restless legs etc, no reason to think it definitely is choleostasis, but you must get it checked just in case it is.

Thanks all. Restless legs sounds much more like it but I promise to mention it to the midwife nonetheless :)
