Scared about reassurance scan today

I've got a scan this afternoon, I am 7+5 today.

It is my 5th PG with no babies to show for it.

It gets so hard to go back in there each time, the memories just pile up and I can't cope with it all.

I'm scared about the scan too.

Actually it was a weak positive, so maybe i should try to hold onto that, Cybercat, just in case.

My friend has a bouncing 10 month old and when she was scanned at 13 weeks (using her dates) she measured at 11. It is possible x

I know exactly where you are coming from. I've had a couple of mmc then a late loss and then a closely monitored pregnancy that resulted in dd.
I got a bfp on Monday but have had spotting and cramping since. I haven't even spoken to gp yet. I should because they will want to monitor me again but I am going to do another test on Monday before I do. Otherwise I might already miscarry and waste their time.
I'm hoping it is just implanting and my womb adjusting.

Lots of people get BFPs before 28 days. I've had one at 23 days and one at 25 so if you're not certain when you ovulated, then there's definitely still hope.

A heartbeat is good, and a weak positive HPT would support this.
Will they not rescan you in 1 week rather than 2? At least that would give you an answer sooner on whether it is ok or not.

thanks for the encouragement. I'll keep hopeful for now. FX I ovulated very late & the scan measurement was a bit off or something.

They won't rescan before 2 weeks unless I have bleeding or cramping, I asked. It is going to be a long 2 weeks.

It sounds so silly but I've just had my work cut out desperately trying to get to 7+3 without going bonkers, and I cant imagine how i'm going to do it for another 2 weeks.

Drama, I have my fingers crossed it is implanting you are experiencing. I understand what you mean about not wanting to contact them. Hang in there. I'm so glad you have a dd.

Don't lose hope OP. I had an early scan for spotting. Based on dates I was certain that I was over 7 weeks yet they dated me as 5+2. The wait for a follow up scan was agony. I'm now 13+2 and the babe is growing consistently. A heartbeat is a very positive sign in my experience.

Im sorry it was not good news at your scan but just wanted to say that you will get there. I had 4 miscarriages including a molar pregnancy that became cancerous,3 late losses too but I now have lovely dcs. Don't give up hope.

Make sure that if the worse does happen-and fingers crossed it doesn't!-that they are extra vigalant when doing any tests due to your molar history.

I also tested negative for lupus and then positive later on and was put on the blood thinners too. With those and having the abdominal stitch I have gone on to have 2 successful pregnancies.

I'm sorry things don't sound great. Recurrent miscarriage is totally, utterly horrible. Fingers crossed for you.

I'm sorry it didn't go as well as you expected Armadale. I wish I'd commented earlier and suggested you ask for a weekly scan rather than fortnightly, that's why I'd asked you. You can still phone up and ask them this tomorrow. After 4 lost babies they should arrange it for you without any questions. You shouldn't have to wait this long for another scan.

As for the baby size, did they give you a measurement? My DS (born after 4 mc's) was always measuring below average from weeks 7-11. I worried a lot but he managed to pull through.

Also, have you had your thyroid and vitamin D tested before this pregnancy?
There have been studies to suggest that vitamin D deficiency can affect vascular health and cause blood clots. Having a normal vitamin D level in your body can improve circulation in the uterus too along with high dose folic acid.

Take care of yourself, I know all you feel is despair right now, but you are still pregnant so loads of rest and nice things to eat .

Glad you are at Thomas' - best place in the world for someone with possible clotting problems in pregnancy...
You can test neg and still have symptoms of Hughes - some antibodies they test for are elevated in pregnancy....and there is an increased risk of clotting anyway - hence lots of people being 'diagnosed' when they are pregnant ... so good you are on the fragmin and aspirin -can't do any harm...
Fingers crossed for you ....don't worry too much about the baby seeming small from a scan ...they aren't really an exact science
For DD1 at about 36 weeks weekly scan (so bigger to measure) the person doing the scan - obviously experienced - kept doing it again and double checking measurements etc...report slip was sealed in an envelope - I knew something was wrong ...
Apparently she hadn't grown in the week and her amniotic fluid levels had gone down - I had to return the next day for another scan...(obviously by that stage the baby would be better out if there were any problems) - next day the scan was fine ...normal growth, fluid levels...etc -I was told she was probably just at a funny angle for the first scan...
Also for DD2 had an amnio (older mother) - it was all borderline whether I should have one or not -exact no of weeks was important for the blood tests results - can't remember exactly - I didn't have a date for last period - but did know exactly the date I conceived - they said that wasn't possible -and the scans I had had from 5 weeks backed up their dates ...
The very very best of luck ..never had a MC - but do know how stressful and worrying it is when you are expecting/waiting for something to go wrong...(DD1 I counted every week..it took to 28 weeks before I started thinking with luck she might just make it - by 38 weeks (she was due to be induced at 39+3) I was begging for them to induce me - to get her out why she was still alive ...)

Just wanted to comment as I had Hughes in my last pregnancy (ended in a very late loss). It has disappeared for this pregnancy so far. Good luck to you.

So sorry for your loss tsw -that was my biggest fear - and I knew it might happen - I think it must be so much worse if you aren't expecting it
If the tests weren't so unreliable, I think there is an argument to test for Hughes/APS as soon as a pregnancy is confirmed -it could save a lot of heartache.

Are they treating you as positive for this pregnancy anyway?
I started testing negative years before being pregnant but they treated me as positive anyway - I'd recently moved up to Scotland but for DD1 they spoke to my old consultant in St Thomas' - for DD2 6 years later with more negative results and my notes missing from London- my consultant was less keen on the frequent growth scans - I had to fight for them - he got a haemotologist to talk to me -to put my mind at rest - but after hearing my story he agreed with me and I got the scans I wanted.

Don't lose all hope yet, I had a mmc in may and am pregnant again. Was very scared to find I was spotting at 7 weeks, had a scan and saw heartbeat but was only measuring 6 weeks. The epu weren't concerned at all but after a further incident of bleeding at 8 weeks, I had another scan this week and am now bang on dates at 8+6.
As you know you'll never stop worrying after miscarriage and loss but there is always hope that things will be right this time. That's what I have to tell myself to try and keep positive.

I was tested for it as my uncle died from a blood clot mid pregnancy & I had a positive but it was treated as a false positive. I got another positive after I lost my baby so it was "ratified" as I had 2 tests & "an event".

I am on double aspirin but docs hesitant to treat me with heparin unless it returns. I have been tested before pregnancy, at 6 weeks, at 12 weeks & will be tested again at 20 weeks in 2 weeks time. All neg so far. Doc says that it returning "goes against accepted theory" so is very confident this will be a successful pregnancy but testing to be sure. I'm getting scans pretty much every 2-4 weeks atm.

Sorry turning into a thread hijack ....but that makes me so angry for you - the test are so unreliable (or used to be) there should be no such thing as a false positive ...
I knew/know quite bit about APS (was diagnosed 21 yrs ago after a massive DVT)
I'm not that up to date - but I would be fighting for the heparin - unless doc has a very very good reason not to prescribe...and weekly growth scans as you get to 30 weeks...

He's concerned about a link between heparin & abruption that he has found in his research so is hesitant. Said in the past he would just give it to me.

Had been bleeding a little for a couple of days, but today starting losing huge clots. I knew this morning before it started by the pains I was getting.

I just don't know if I've got enough grit left in me to pull myself together again.
